Has anyone used this for photos and lightroom and did it improve speed of lightroom loading photos?
I have two of these drives and I use them extensively for travel with my laptop. I am a photographer and they are used only for Lightroom and to a lesser extent for Photoshop. It is difficult to answer your question about speed since I don't know your reference point,i.e. associated computer equipment. My experience is that this drive is exceptionally fast for uploading a lot of big photos(my camera is 60 MP)with my laptop, a Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon 6th Gen with an 8th Generation Intel Core i7-8650U processor with Turbo Boost, 16 GB RAm, 1 TB solid state Hard Drive - which I keep relatively empty since it is used only for travel. The drive is also exceptionally small-about the size of a credit card. I cannot recommend them highly enough - they are the best I have used to date.

What are the read and write speeds with USB 3.0 and not USB C?
I just tested mine today as it seemed slow. USB 3.0 A into a 3.0 port and getting 44mb/s. I ran the test 4 times. The system transfer rate (this drive to a crucial ssd mx500) was the same speed. Also, the USB A to C cable stopped working about a week ago. The computer doesn't see the drive unless I use another cable. I'm about to request a replacement drive as my 30 days is almost up.

This is a portable, USB C 1 TB Hard drive, what are you trying to save on your TV? Do you have an output to save anything? This is a great solid state portable hard drive. I use mine to save photos when I travel with my Apple MacBook Pro all over the world. When I return home, I download the photois on to my home hard drives. I clear everything off, nd start fresh again. Whatever you want to back-up, this drive will do. You may have to format the drive for your purposes, but they are great for all sorts of uses.
