    Hikvision Value Series reviews

Value Series 5MP Outdoor 30x Network Speed Dome Camera with Night Vision is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A lot of camera for a great price I am a home owner with the need (want) for a good quality PTZ camera that can be mounted outside totally unprotected from the weather, be POE capable, excellent optics and ease of setup. I have purchased other cheap PTZ cameras in the past, but they were a consumer grade version and quite honestly, you get what you pay for. I was done wasting my money on consumer versions. I researched PTZ cameras for several days and finally whittled my selection down to Hikvision. Since there weren't really any buyer reviews on this model, I had to base my purchasing decision off of the manufactures specs. As usual, B&H had the best price, the unit was in stock and shipping wasfree, quick and uneventful. What was not really clear in Hikvisions specs is if a mount arm was included with the camera. A mount arm IS NOT included, so one will have to be ordered when you order your camera. Just a warning before you order. Upon receiving my camera, I opened up the well packed shipping box and was slightly surprised by the size of the product box. Be forewarned, this is NOT a small or mini PTZ camera. This camera is BIG! The factory picture really doesn't do the camera justice. The overall camera is heavy. The camera and housing is very well built. Fit and finish is top notch. Camera and Mount arm weigh in right around 12 pounds. Just another note, If you are looking for a "stealth" inconspicuous camera, this is most definitely NOT the one for you. Connecting the camera was very easy for me. I simply ran a CAT5E cable to the camera and connected it via the RJ-45 connection at the camera. The other end of the CAT5E cable was plugged into a POE injector. The camera does come with it's own 56VDC-60 watt POE injector. I suggest that you use the supplied injector with this camera. I have a switch with POE+ on my network, but it seemed that the camera was taxing the power supply built into my switch. The camera has other wires built in for audio, alarms and other uses. In my application, I did not need the other connectivity. The camera comes with a DVD disc loaded with software and factory manuals. The software loaded with no issues. I use a Mac Mini I5 computer, so I loaded the proper Client software for MAC. Easy to setup, I had connectivity to the camera, had it registered and had a live picture within a couple of minutes of starting. This camera is not geared toward your typical homeowner consumer, so the instruction manuals for the camera and software lean towards the assumption that if you purchased this camera, you already have a general understanding of IP networked cameras and how to setup generic settings within them. In other words, this is a professional camera. Be prepared to do some extra research on some of the options if you don't regularly work with cameras like this. The camera is feature rich, phenomenal optical resolution, quick zoom and focus. I like that the camera has a semi-auto focus function incorporated into it along with auto and manual. There are things in the foreground that I desire to look at without the camera selecting the focus for me based on the background. The IR for night vision is phenomenal. The IR changes to a different set of emitters as the zoom function is increased. In my setup, I have my camera mounted on a outdoor porch post attached to my home. I have a 270 degree view using the camera pan for where it is mounted. Mostly, I wanted to be able to use the camera to view wildlife in the creek valley 350' away from my home. The IR illumination very well saturates the entire zoomed in area in IR light. The auto focus has no problems at night focusing on objects in the distance. The pan and tilt function is very quick. You can program the speed of these functions and I would recommend that if you are using this PTZ camera to view wildlife that you slow the pan and tilt function down. The stepper motor is fairly loud when the speeds are set to a higher acceleration and run rate, which has a tendency to spook the the wildlife. But, if you want to spook or catch someone creeping around your home or business, the stepper motor noise is a very good way to get their attention. The motion of the pan and tilt are very fluid, quick and precise. The camera does not overshoot it's position not does it have to hunt for it's position. The 5MP picture is very vivid and lifelike in it's color replication during the day under all types of lighting conditions. The clarity of the picture in low light situations is pretty spectacular and once the camera switches to black and white at night, the picture is well defined and crisp without all of the background noise you would typically get in a consumer version PTZ camera. Overall, I have been very impressed with thisHikvision Value Series 5MP Outdoor 30x Network Speed Dome Camera with Night Vision. I never knew I had this much wildlife traveling at night through my creek valley until I bought and installed this Hikvision PTZ camera. If you are looking for a well designed, well built and easy to operate camera that is a step above typical consumer version quality PTZ security cameras and are not needing for it to be stealth, I would highly recommend this Hikvision camera from B&H.
