Cambo WRS overview

  • 1Description

A technical view camera designed for precision, the WRS-600 from Cambo offers a flexible range of movements, compatibility with WTS/WDS lens panels and SLW interface adapters, and a distinct one-piece body with a sliding back system. The sliding back incorporates a ground glass for accurate focusing and composing along with the convenience of sliding your digital or film back in place for shooting. The sliding mechanism also greatly benefits creating stitched and panoramic images and, for shooting stability, a removable tripod mount is featured and has both 1/4" and 3/8" tripod sockets. Geared vertical and lateral shift movements are possible via the large steel drive knobs, and printed index scales enable making repeatable, accurate perspective control movements. Three built-in spirit levels further contribute to making more precise adjustments and a weight compensation mechanism offers more fluid control over movements for seamless use. The top of the camera also features a two-point accessory mount plate for attaching an optional viewfinder, iPhone holder, compendium shade, or shoe mount. Combining the control of a traditional view camera with the size and form factor well-suited to digital capture, the WRS-600 affords a versatile feature-set that is ideal for architectural and landscape photography.

Camera Movements
Using accelerated spindle geared movements, driven by extra-large stainless steel drive knobs, this camera affords a range of vertical and lateral shift movements:
  • Shift: +/- 20mm
  • Rise: 40mm
  • Fall: 20mm

Additionally, this Wide RS camera is also compatible with WTS lens panels to gain tilt and swing adjustment on the lens plane for more control over focus and depth of field.

    Cambo WRS reviews

WRS-600 Technical Camera is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from What a precision hunk of metal I didn't buy this from B+H, but I thought I would share a a few observations. This is an extremely well-made piece of metal and moving parts. Expensive? Yes, but if you want large shift/rise/fall capabilities in the field, and you also want to work with a ground glass, this is a superb choice. In tech cameras, I started out with Alpa, but switched to Cambo. At each size & price point, it seemed that Cambo had the Alpa beat. I still love my Alpa; there is an heirloom feel to each piece. But ounce for ounce, the Cambo lets me take more capabilities into the field. And the Cambo is just as well-made, if not better. On your tripod, this is a top-heavy piece of equipment. Merits the best tripod and head combo. It feels a tad unsteady on top of my RRS TVC24. Feels better on my 34 with the Arca C1 Cube. All movements are very precise, with very smooth gearing. This is a tech camera; does what it does with elegance, and precision, with the added benefit of a built-in ground glass that you don't have to swap with your digital back. if I had one quibble, it would be with the OEM tripod foot. I got mine with the Arca-compatible dovetail mount. The way that Cambo designs these just doesn't feel as bombproof as RRS.
