Ruggard EDC Overview

Protect cameras, lenses, photographic and optical equipment, mobile electronics, and other valuables from excessive moisture, dirt, and dust with the Ruggard EDC-50L Electronic Dry Cabinet. The cabinet's fast-acting TE Cooling Wafer regulates the interior's relative humidity from 60 to 35% to help prevent fungus and corrosion that can damage delicate gear and other sensitive materials. Humidity adjustments take place over a 1- to 3-hour period.

The large, dimmable LCD displays ambient temperature (in Fahrenheit or Celsius), relative humidity, and other settings, and the glass door is gasket sealed. Interior LED lights make viewing and finding gear easier, and both the base and the two adjustable plastic shelves are padded to help guard against scratches.

The Electronic Dry Cabinet features nearly silent operation, without a fan or compressor to make noise. It is also dripless, eliminating the need for a messy water tray that requires draining. To prevent unwanted movement, the bottom of the cabinet has four feet, two of which are leveling feet for installing on uneven surfaces. The cabinet is powered by an included multi-voltage power supply.

Ruggard EDC Reviews

First impressions are good

The build quality is good for the price range. The operation is VERY quite, I've seen several reviews about the humidity not being displayed accurately but I can't comment to that as I have no other way of measuring it at the moment. I will say that it is slow, you don't want to be opening this cabinet every day, it is more for storage. It took about a whole 24 hours to go from 48% to 31% relative humidity. Might get faster results if you put a drying agent in there to help boost it, idk, for my purposes this is great and I don't mind the delay due to the fact that it's practically silent. 10/10 would buy again.

If you live where humidity is high; buy this cabinet

Currently I have 10 bodies (mostly film bodies and 3 Sony's) and more than 14 lenses packed into this cabinet. The typical humidity in my home is 65% and during summer it will get to 75%+. This cabinet keeps the humidity at 51%. The interior light is weak, but useful. I wish they put LED lights on both sides of the interior. Cabinet fits conveniently on the end of my work station.

So I've already got two 80L s full of camera gear but wanted the 18L for my VA meds and fists full a supplements. The 18L holds all my stock very snugly and I suspect quite dryly with enough grab room for my spindly fingers to snatch. Takes quite awhile to reach 40% target after short intrusions but appears to be working as well as the 80-s. Here in NW Illinois things get muggy occasionally so the price for dryness insurance is way cheaper than the otherwise consequences. Don't be penny wise and dollar stupid; the dry cabinets are mega times cheaper than takin' chances.

Set up my cabinet past week and it is keeping relative humidity between 40-47. Seems to be working as expected and fit all of my equipment.

Finally!

I had been wanting to purchase one of the Ruggard dry cabinets for over a year and was able to get one on sale at B&H. The 125L is perfect for my needs. Unit works flawlessly and now I have a stable environment for my gear. A must have to protect your investment.

I bought this because I keep my photography equipment in our basement and I wanted something that would keep my lenses safe from mold. This cabinet is awesome. It is large, well lit (it acts as a nightlight for the basement) and it is an amazing display case. For the price, this is an amazing value. It also keeps the dust off my cameras and lenses; an added bonus.

Fits it all

I have all my stills equipment along with a pocket 6k pro. Doesn't fit my motion kit, but I didn't expect it to. I feel a lot better knowing my gear is dry during the humid summers

Is there a better solution? General Comment - perhaps a better solution... I believe that consistent humidity and temperature levels are important, so here’s my suggestion: use a good dehumidifier(s) in your home (Eg, I use a newer model GE that is energy star rated), which does a great job of keeping the ambient humidity around 38%. This has lots of benefits, including reducing the strain of an HVAC system and keeping the system and duct work relatively moisture free. Then buy a good Gun Safe (AMSEC is a good brand, but there are many) with a dial lock (avoid electronic locks which can fail...). A good safe will have a power outlet inside which you can connect a dehumidifying rod to and keep a humidity gauge inside. A fire rated safe is also recommended; minimum of 60 minutes. Store all your most important valuables, including video gear, wills, passwords book, etc inside and sleep well at night. Gun safes are affordable and come in lots of sizes. You’ll want to pay a reputable firm to deliver and install the safe. I’ve also read that when taking video gear outside, if there’s a big difference in temperature/humidity, that placing the gear in a sealed bag to allow the gear to come to a matching temperature sans condensation is recommended. I’d love to read anyone’s thoughts or experiences along these lines...always looking for best practices. Cheers. Chad K.

While the solutions you list above may also work, unfortunately, we do not offer any of the other solutions, and the Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet (50L) would be an option we carry that would be compatible and would maintain the temperature/humidity control to the equipment inside the unit. It is true that moving from indoors to outdoors when there is a large difference in temperature/humidity can cause condensation to form on your equipment, and keeping the item in a sealed plastic bag while the inside/outside temperatures equalize would reduce the condensation occurrence on your equipment.

Can this run on 12 volt DC? If so, do you think I could keep this on a 38 foot sailboat without draining my batteries?
Asked by: Fisher
No Sir, Unit will not run on 12vdc, supplied 120vac transformer output is 5vdc at 2000mA. I run my units remote with this solar generator (Jackery Portable Power Station Explorer 24 Solar Generator) and a set of these solar panels (Jackery Solar Saga 60W Solar Panel for Explorer) When using that set up I run two (50L) cabinets with no worries

Does this need to constantly be plugged in and stay on 24/7? Or can I unplug it and leave it off on days when it's cooler with less humidity?
Asked by: Manny
It makes no sound an draws very little power so it seems like pointless extra work to turn it on and off. Set the humidity to a reasonable level and it will only work when needed. I'm very happy with this product.

Without actually getting the equipment and putting it in the cabinet there is not a way to be positive if it will fit all of your specific equipment. I do feel it is too much equipment for it. Best is to on the floor tape out the interior size of 11.3 x 11.4 rectangle. And then take equipment and place it in the taped area and see what fits. There are two shelves so you have three landings. And make note of the height of your equipment as the total interior height of the cabinet is 20.9".
