Ruggard EDC Overview

Protect cameras, lenses, photographic and optical equipment, mobile electronics, and other valuables from excessive moisture, dirt, and dust with the Ruggard EDC-180L Electronic Dry Cabinet with Dual Humidity Zones. The cabinet's fast-acting TE Cooling Wafer regulates the interior's relative humidity from 60 to 35% to help prevent fungus and corrosion that can damage delicate gear and other sensitive materials. Humidity adjustments take place over a 1- to 3-hour period.

The large LCD displays ambient temperature (in Fahrenheit or Celsius), relative humidity, and other settings, and the glass doors are gasket sealed. Interior LED lights make viewing and finding gear easier, and both the base and the five adjustable plastic shelves are padded to help guard against scratches.

This cabinet features an upper cabinet and lower cabinet with independently set relative humidity levels. Each cabinet has an independent control panel with LCD display, and power switch for that zone, which allows equipment and materials with different humidity requirements to be simultaneously stored in the same cabinet.

The Electronic Dry Cabinet features nearly silent operation, without a fan or compressor to make noise. It is also dripless, eliminating the need for a messy water tray that requires draining. The base of cabinet has four feet, two of which are leveling feet to prevent unwanted movement on uneven surfaces. The cabinet is powered by an included multi-voltage power supply.

Received it in a timely manner - as always from B&H. Fits my camera gear and more. 80L is a super size!

Great place to keep your photo gear

I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I really cannot judge the humidity control. I'm in the middle of winter here and the air is normally dry. I still have the benefit of keeping my gear in a dust free environment. Considering the cost of the gear this is cheap insurance.

Got it in August and it works good so far. I put a little humidity reader inside and when the cabinet set to 40%, it shows around 20%. So I need to figure out if that an issue, but it is definitely dry inside and that's what I need in my environment.

Stopped Working After 18 Months

Purchased the 120L and it stopped working 18 months later. Gradus Group customer service is terrible, getting them to honor their warranty is an extremely annoying process. Would never buy Ruggard again.

I store my equipment in a humid basement. I have clothes, walls and electronics that all ended up with white mold in them. Some some soft touch plastic items ended up feeling nasty and sticky. I now realize this is from the moisture in the air. I am lucky none of my camera gear suffered fungus or mold from this. Perhaps because they are stored in a bag in another part of the basement. Either way, this seemed like a wise purchase. I am storing camera lenses, cameras, cassettes, DV tapes, DAT tapes microphones, zip drives, floppy disks and other items in this case. I am not sure how accurate the humidity gauge is. I placed a reader in the case and it read way different than the display on the case. Either way, I am hoping this sealed unit helps to preserve my items. A word of advice: get the largest you can afford. You can grow into one as your collection increases. I have so many items between photography and music production that I need another one of these units!

The dry cabinet is working properly and I have received it from USA to French Guina in a few days as scheduled. I like when it works the way is was said by the company. Humidity is 80% in French Guiana. It tooks around 3 days to go from 80% to 40%. I use this dry cabinet to protect my photographic equipment from humidity.

Puerto Rico humidity is not good for sensitive electronics. Item shipped from NY and arrived in Puerto Rico in 3 days. Just open the box, plug it in, set the humidity and load it up with things you want to protect. Super quiet. Dry cabinet went from 77% Humidity to 55% in about an hour. Love this.

I have three mirrorless camera bodies and six lenses. The 50 L dry cabinet is adequate to hold my camera gear. If you have large full frame cameras and big lenses, you might look at going with the Ruggard Dry Cabinet in a larger size.

The keys for Ruggard EDC-180L Electronic Dry Cabinet with Dual Humidity Zones (180L) are not master keys and are actually different with every cabinet. If the keys are lost, the entire lock will need to be replaced on the cabinet.

Is there a better solution? General Comment - ...

Is there a better solution? General Comment - perhaps a better solution... I believe that consistent humidity and temperature levels are important, so here’s my suggestion: use a good dehumidifier(s) in your home (Eg, I use a newer model GE that is energy star rated), which does a great job of keeping the ambient humidity around 38%. This has lots of benefits, including reducing the strain of an HVAC system and keeping the system and duct work relatively moisture free. Then buy a good Gun Safe (AMSEC is a good brand, but there are many) with a dial lock (avoid electronic locks which can fail...). A good safe will have a power outlet inside which you can connect a dehumidifying rod to and keep a humidity gauge inside. A fire rated safe is also recommended; minimum of 60 minutes. Store all your most important valuables, including video gear, wills, passwords book, etc inside and sleep well at night. Gun safes are affordable and come in lots of sizes. You’ll want to pay a reputable firm to deliver and install the safe. I’ve also read that when taking video gear outside, if there’s a big difference in temperature/humidity, that placing the gear in a sealed bag to allow the gear to come to a matching temperature sans condensation is recommended. I’d love to read anyone’s thoughts or experiences along these lines...always looking for best practices. Cheers. Chad K.

While the solutions you list above may also work, unfortunately, we do not offer any of the other solutions, and the Ruggard Electronic Dry Cabinet (50L) would be an option we carry that would be compatible and would maintain the temperature/humidity control to the equipment inside the unit. It is true that moving from indoors to outdoors when there is a large difference in temperature/humidity can cause condensation to form on your equipment, and keeping the item in a sealed plastic bag while the inside/outside temperatures equalize would reduce the condensation occurrence on your equipment.

can I put a canon ef 70-200 with lens cap on standing up on the bottom and have a 5D Mk 3 standing up right on the top shelf without any issues? I will want to have all my lenses standing up on the bottom shelf and my camera bodies on the top standing up without any issues.
Asked by: Ashton
You can store your Canon EF 70-200mm Lens with the rear cap on facing straight up on the bottom while your 5D Mark III can be placed at the top.
