Netgear R8000P-100NAS overview

  • 1Description

With tri-band functionality, the R8000P Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Wireless Tri-Band Gigabit Router from NETGEAR is capable of supporting connected clients on the single 2.4 GHz frequency or either of the two 5 GHz frequencies. The single 2.4 GHz frequency supports data transfer rates of up to 750 Mbps while the 5 GHz frequencies support data transfer rates of up to 1.625 Gbps to handle bandwidth-intensive tasks such as streaming multimedia content, online gaming, downloading large files, and more. The Nighthawk X6S also supports the 802.11ac Wi-Fi network standard with a total Wi-Fi bandwidth of up to 4000 Mbps. If a wired connection is needed, users can connect Ethernet-enabled devices to any of the four Gigabit Ethernet ports for a reliable wired network connection.

The Nighthawk X6S features MU-MIMO, or Multiple User-Multiple Input, Multiple Output technology, making it easy to connect multiple devices to the router, each with its own dedicated pathway to the network. In addition to MU-MIMO technology, the Nighthawk X6S also supports cloud storage functionality. Simply connect a compatible USB hard drive to the router's USB port and access your files using the ReadyCLOUD mobile app or web portal. Managing your network has also been simplified thanks to the NETGEAR genie App which offers a variety of management tools as well as the ability to remotely manage your network when you're away.

Multi-User MIMO (MU-MIMO)
Using Multi-User MIMO technology, NETGEAR routers can stream data to multiple devices simultaneously. With MU-MIMO, your Wi-Fi network can deliver faster throughput to every MU-MIMO connected device. That means faster downloads and smoother streaming for your devices.
Enhanced Tri-Band Wi-Fi
Tri-Band Wi-Fi with Smart Connect changes the game for today's home Wi-Fi networks. With one 2.4 GHz band and two 5 GHz Wi-Fi bands to work with, the X6 has the capacity, flexibility, and intelligence to assign each device to the Wi-Fi band where it can connect at its maximum possible speed. The result is that faster devices can connect and perform unhindered by slower or older devices, so all devices load, stream, and game at maximum speed.
Simple and Secure Cloud Storage
Access and share your files stored on a USB Drive through NETGEAR ReadyCLOUD USB Access. Simply plug your USB hard drive into the NETGEAR Nighthawk Wi-Fi Router to create secure personal cloud storage. Enjoy the convenience and accessibility of Google Drive and Dropbox without the fees, storage limitations, or privacy concerns. Using the ReadyCLOUD mobile app or web portal, you can access your USB drive any time, from anywhere.
Control Your Network Using Voice Commands
"Alexa, ask NETGEAR to turn on guest Wi-Fi." Easily control your router using voice commands using Amazon Alexa. To enable the router to work with Amazon Alexa, you can use the command "Alexa, enable the NETGEAR skill," or you can manually link the NETGEAR skill to your Alexa app.

    Netgear R8000P-100NAS reviews

    R8000P Nighthawk X6S AC4000 Wireless Tri-Band Gigabit Router is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Fast and easy setup So far so good. This router is replacing a previous Linksys router which had dropped its connection many times. I have a family of 8 at any given time and each of us have at minimum, two devices that are needing WiFi and/or internet connections. I have not had any issues with this Netgear router as of this writing. Setup was a breeze and I have had a solid connection from my master bedroom upstairs getting speeds as high as 90mbps (I am paying for 75mbps). The router interface could use a little revamping as it is the same interface used with my previous netgear router.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Nice Router - Mine Came with Issues I bought the Netgear X6S R8000P the last week in July. It's been about 3 weeks now and the verdict is - this is a really nice unit. One thing I would like to see though is for Netgear add some user functionality to its interface. Along with some other minor issues, there's no ability to prioritize attached devices, As a result, I've found that I get better WiFi connectivity by turning off the 'Smart Select' feature and manually assigning a connection for each device (utilizing 3 different SSID's). It'd be nice if Netgear could include some of the same options that ware available on my R7000 model. Perhaps a later firmware update will expand on these settings. The ultimate reason for my 3-star rating is more a result of a 'bad apple' issue. I began to experience a problem very soon after installing the router. The internet connection would periodically be lost over-night (usually occurring every other night). Three separate calls to customer support was not all that helpful. While I'm not an expert in this field, it would seem that I know about as much as their 'tier-1' reps do. After about a week, the result from support was a decision to issue an RMA, allowing me to return the unit and have it replaced. It's been over five days now and I'm still waiting for the final instructions from Netgear. This delay, however, has apparently worked to my advantage. After trying all the usual fixes (among them: factory resets, downgrading firmware, & reducing the MTU size). One final fix that I applied (after my last call to Netgear) seems like it might have done the trick. Must admit that it shouldn't make any difference at all, but I noticed the router was set to Pacific time (I'm on Eastern). It's been 4 days and, after re-setting the correct time zone, the router appears to be functioning normally and holding its internet connection. Don't know why, but won't argue with success. Fingers crossed

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Works great when it works I've had issues with lost internet connections from day one but more frequently after recent firmware updates. I'm not alone. Look into the issue on Netgear's user forum: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/R8000P-dropping-wifi-connection/td-p/1411834 For the money, this thing should fly like the stealth fighter it looks like. I'm hoping that Netgear can fix the issue with another firmware update. It's not just losing the connection, but buffering at the worst moments while streaming TV. It never seems to happen during a commercial! Buffering should never be an issue with specs like this router has. It starts with small buffers and builds up to longer periods until it's necessary to just reboot the router. I'd recommend going with another model (and brand) until Netgear gets their act together with the firmware.
