The AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR is compatible w/ the DX format, correct? How does the AF-P NIKKOR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6E ED VR compare to the AF-P DX Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-6.3G ED lens that comes with the D3500 2 lens kit? Is it worth the upgrade? Primarily used for outdoor sports photography

I have had the 70-300 4.5- 5.6 ED VR for a year now and yes it is worth the upgrade. At 300mm you are going to want that VR feature. The lens will work with both the FX and DX formats and I use it on both. Be sure your DX camera can support the AF-P lenses. Still, the D3500 with the two lenses is a bargain, just be sure you know what you will be giving up. Look at Thom Hogans review of these lenses.
