    Yongnuo YN686EX-RT reviews

YN686EX-RT Lithium TTL Speedlite for Canon Cameras is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 8.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great aflash at a Great Price! I love the easy to use features of this flash, everything you need at a touch of a button, I use it constantly and make the necessary changes needed without thinking about it, That's how simple it is to use, The Lithium Battery on this flash is Amazing, I've shot all day with it and still have plenty of charge left, with regular AA battery i probably would have change them twice before the end of the day. Powerful and best of all Great Price!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just received it yesterday So far I'm impressed with it. I'll be really testing it out this weekend. It arrived after 7pm yesterday but from the little use I got from it & also the wireless testing I did with Canon's most recent transmitter; it worked pretty darn good.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Quick release lever is unusable! The quick release lever that keeps the flash tightly attached to the camera hot shoe has no locking mechanism. That means if the flash experiences any bumps or movement at all it comes loose. At which point the flash stops talking properly to your camera and either doesn't fire or defaults to full power. Worse, it can literally fall off your camera and smash to the ground. If you move the flash head at all to bounce off a ceiling or wall you must immediately re-tighten the lever. One twist is enough to loosen the flash on the hot shoe. Two or three twists and it's coming off the camera. This makes what could be a nice flash literally unusable for on camera work. I suppose it's still an OK off camera flash for a stand and umbrella where you won't be moving the flash or its head. I didn't discover this until my first real event shoot. Too late for me to return this to B&H, but hopefully my warning will help others stay away from an unreliable flash.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good flash for a great price I bought this to work with my Canon 70D. So far so good! I've used a few flashes over the years and the metering has been hit or miss, but so far this flash does an excellent job. I love the fast recharge and the battery life. If I were to complain about anything, it would be the locking mechanism. The standard old screw lock on my Sigma 500 DG Super feels way more solid and while this may be quicker, I'd choose solid over quick.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from upgrade from my previous NW600EX-RT I used this for a recent Engagement shoot. It was partly sunny and some shots were right out in a field with them being on the side of some machinery which had some pretty harsh shadowing. I was able to use the 14mm wide zoom and fill everything in nicely. That's where I started to get impressed. That and I charged the battery in about 45 minutes 2 weeks prior.. messed with it for a couple of hours when I first got it in to make sure everything worked and even after the Shoot which lasted about 2.5 hours, it is still on full charge; however, you supposedly can get up to 750 full power flash shots with a 1.5 recycle time. I didn't use the flash on every shot nor did I use full power but the ETTL II worked great. I did all on-camera for the style we were doing but I have tested it off camera as well. It even has a USB port / cable for Firmware updates. I haven't tested that part yet but in actual use, this is my goto flash and my NW600 is now my backup. The interface was easy to use and I'm personally happy with it and think I'll stick with this line for now. It also have an overheat warning indicators.. sounds etc.. So far it hasn't failed me but I'm most impressed with the battery and how much easier to use it was over the NW600.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good Flash BAD locking mechanism Flash is vey capable but it will fall off your camera if you do not constantly tighten the locking mechanism. It's a shame that a good flash is ruined by bad cheap & lazy design on something as important as the mechanism that attaches it to the camera. Will not recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good flash if you don't need it to cycle fast I bought this flash after hearing great things about the Yongnuo's. I was super excited to use it at one of the weddings I had booked last weekend. The flash worked great but over heats VERY easily. I was taking photos of the couple during the first dance and it quit half way thru with the "overheat" signal on the back screen. It took almost 20 min for it to be usable again. Overall the flash works great but I would not recommend it for any sessions that you would need to take photos quickly as it overheats so easily.
