The Ultra Plate Camera Support also has three countersunk holes to drive nails into a wooden surface and permanently attach the platform for special applications. Additionally, there are three open spaces that the included carabiner can clip into for attaching to a belt or bag. Another means of carrying the Ultra is by running an accessory belt or backpack strap through the slotted belt loops. Meanwhile, the slotted belt loops can also accommodate the 20" cinch strap, so it can attach onto a tree or pole and shoot from an elevated height.

Very handy travel pod

The platypod ultra paired with a small ball head is great for travel. It's light and compact, and it gives me a super steady mount for shooting in low light when I don't want to carry a tripod.

Love The Ultra Size and Functions

Bought the Platypod Ultra Plate as I have been wanting to do some shots from non-standard positions that mono and tripods just cannot fit. The quality of the aluminum is excellent while the functions available via strap slots, mounting holes and the included multi-functional metal screw feet provide almost every location with a solution for a stable platform. Well done Platypod!

A very small tripod with great results... If you need too travel light or you're doing guerrilla photos in a site you're not allowed to use a tripod, this is the tripod for you. It's made of quality materials and easy to use.

Workmanship is excellent. I use it with a Canon R5 and Leofoto LH-25 ball head. It's light weight. Great for a narrow set of situations. Not a tripod replacement, but again, in certain situations a nice tool

Platypod Almost Wonderful

OK, so I bought this Platypod in anticipation to a trip to the Museum-goer's Paradise - Washington D.C.. I tend to take my museum photos in the same vein as a street photographer. It's the people who are the subjects of my photos with the wonders of the museum as a backdrop. The lighting is always minimal outside of the displays, so a tripod would be helpful, even at ISO 3200. I watched the Platypod video on YouTube and it convinced me to buy it. It's well-made so no complaints there, but it's not the panacea that they say it is. I found that it was handy though, as where I normally brace my camera against a wall or railing, I now brace the Platypod against a wall or railing, and the attached ball head gives an opportunity to better frame the composition. That is its strength. No museum guards apprehended me, though I was careful not to attract too much attention. This is a good tool, but not the salvation it's touted to be. The spiked screw feet got through TSA just fine, but I found myself not using the screw feet at all. They got in the way when finding something to brace against. It fits in your back pocket and the ball head in your front pocket. It's a cool tool. Buy it.

A tripod in my pocket

While carrying the ultra plate in one pocket and a small ballhead in another, I can quickly set-up my full-size DSLR & regular-size lens for stabilized shots from floors, tables, etc. It is not a tripod, so not likely to be disallowed by museum security staff. ,Works great, good price!

Great Tripod Alternative

I was on going on a trip, where I was not confident I could carry a tripod, so I tried out the Platypod. Super impressed with the small form factor and the flexible mounting options with the included strap. It's so slim it fit right in my bag. I could set it on the ground for more unique perspectives, or set it on top of a pillar. It took my typical ball head, which was even easier. No issues with stability.

I use both the MAX and the Ultra. While your setup will work with the Ultra, I would recommend the Max for better, more stable support. In either case, make sure you are stabilized in such a way that the unit does not wobble or tip over.

The Platypod Ultra Plate Camera Support can work with most tripod ball heads that have a 3/8 inch female thread. The ARTCISE LB52 has not been specifically tested on it.
