Nitecore USN1 overview

  • 1Description

Restore power to your Sony NP-FW50 lithium-ion batteries with this compact USN1 Dual-Slot USB Travel Charger from Nitecore. It operates on 5 VDC input power, and features an attached USB cable that's stored in a trough to save space and prevent damage. The USB plug allows for connection to one of various user-supplied adapters, portable power banks, and solar panels, making the unit ideal for travel, camping, and almost any other adventure in your life. When used in conjunction with 2 fully charged 18650 batteries, Nitecore's own F2 flexible bank will provide enough juice to charge both Sony NP-FW50 packs.

The sophisticated USN1 contains a smart charging management system, which monitors battery status and displays voltage, charging current, temperature, battery capacity, and battery power level on the LCD monitor. Then, it automatically chooses the most appropriate charging mode based on this data. The device also provides battery condition monitoring, carrying out a health inspection and reporting cell status as good, normal, or poor on the LCD.

The USN1 offers mechanical protection against reverse polarity, preventing charging from occurring if an incompatible or incorrectly installed battery is present. Additionally, the error message "EE" will appear on the LCD to notify you if a short-circuited battery is detected.

Built for durability, the USN1 is made from polycarbonate and ABS plastics that are corrosion-resistant and fire-retardant. The charger operates in full compliance with ISO9001 quality control and management guidelines, and meets CE, RoHS, FCC, CEC, REACH, KC, and C-TICK standards.

    Nitecore USN1 reviews

USN1 Dual-Slot USB Travel Charger for Sony NP-FW50 Lithium-Ion Batteries is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works flawlessly Back from a 3-week overseas trip that saw this charger used constantly. I had two other chargers with me, a Sony single and a third party dual charger that is highly rated by B&H customers. I had used them both on previous trips but was attracted to this charger due to its light weight and USB (versus power plug). It worked perfectly, both with one and two batteries charging, and the LED readouts make knowing what is going on far easier than on the other chargers I own. and was so light weight that I was able to keep it with me constantly, including while backpacking. I had not used this charger before so I took both of my other chargers on the trip. They never saw use (and may never see use again). Highly recommend this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from 3 of them in a row not working When I ordered my first one, I got one battery to fully charge in less than an hour. Impressive. Then the problems started. Every time I tried to charge 2 batteries, the charger turned off after 30 min. B&H kindly sent a second. Same issue. Nitecore had me send both bad chargers to them (I paid for the shipping, which was lame). Then I got only one charger back. Same problem. 30 minutes and poof, the thing turns off. I use only genuine Sony NP-FW batteries. So 3 defective chargers. Such a disappointment.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid, cost-effective, high quality, and that price tho! I was skeptical when I saw zero reviews on this dual charger. I was looking for something small to fit in a pelican flight case, and took a chance on buying two of them for all my a7s batteries. The charger bodies are very rigid plastic construction, no flex or cheap feeling shell. The batteries slide in with a snug grab, and the lcd display is very nice and illuminated. There is a lot of useful battery information, and even gives a health rating on the battery's overall lifespan. The charger cord is my only gripe, while it's very cool that it folds into the body, negating having to wrap up a separate cord, it is just a little too short. Plugging into a wall socket would dangle them, and even going into a plug-to-usb port means its hanging at an angle instead of flat on the ground. With a slightly longer cord, this would be a solid 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Dual Slot Is Nice I like the fact that I can see different info about my batts. In the end though, it's a dual slot charger. One caveat is that you need a USB to AC adapter to plug it in the wall. The integrated USB cable is quite short.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It does the job While I have a few third party battery chargers, this is probably one of the better ones, mainly because it is newer technology. One drawback is the skimpy instructions, particularly with reference as to what to expect from the digital information on the screen. I would have also preferred the battery temperature also be given in Fahrenheit instead of/in addition to Celsius. I know most of the rest of the world uses Metric measurement however, the US has NOT changed, may never change and I prefer to read my information directly without having to convert it. With regard to the skimpy instructions, when I first started using the charger, to charge the Sony battery that came DEAD with that camera I also purchased from B&H, I put it on the charger and the ma/maH indication never moved off a reading of Zero!. I then put the battery in the camera and used the charging cord that came with it to put some charge on the battery. After @1 hour, I put the battery back in the NITECORE charger and only then did it show current (which I assume, since the instructions did not say what the amp meter's function is) on it. When the charger is finished charging the battery, there will be an "END" visible where the amperage readings were. Optimally, I would have preferred a slightly longer charging cable, rather than the 4" supplied.
