Leupold 172667 overview

  • 1Description

Sporting a powerful magnification, extra low-dispersion glass, and their proprietary Twilight Max HD Light Management System, Leupold 10x42 BX-4 Pro Guide HD Binoculars, in Kryptek's Typhon camouflage pattern, deliver bright and sharp high-contrast images with true-to-life color and crisp clarity even when observing at medium to long-range.

Image quality is enhanced through the use of phase-corrected coatings on the prisms. The lenses are made of high-transmittance calcium-fluoride glass, which, by their nature, limit reflection and increase color fidelity and contrast. The Twilight Max HD system complements the glass with index-matched lens coatings that were specifically engineered for the calcium-fluoride lenses to raise the already-high transmittance across the entire visible spectrum — with special emphasis on the blue and violet wavelengths that are most prevalent in low light, such as at dawn and dusk. Their 42mm objectives gather generous amounts of light to further boost performance in less-than-ideal conditions without the bulk and weight of larger objectives, while a wide angle of view helps to reduce the appearance of distracting hand shake that is often associated with powerful optics. All of these optical features work together to present the user with a comfortable and immersive observational experience.

Designed to withstand the rigors of the trail, the optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to make them waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature variations. The chassis is made from an aluminum alloy to make it lightweight and corrosion resistant without sacrificing strength and stability. To further cut weight while providing users with more area to grip, Leupold employs an open-bridge configuration with a dual hinge. Its oversized, knurled center focusing wheel allows for sharp focusing even while wearing gloves. For long-duration glassing sessions, or to reduce fatigue and visible hand shake that are common with high magnifications and large objectives, the Pro Guide HD can be mounted on a tripod or other support system using an optional adapter.

Optical Performance
  • 10x magnification allows for detailed observations of distant subjects
  • 42mm objective lenses improve light-gathering ability versus smaller objectives while helping to maintain a compact form factor
  • BAK4 roof prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • High Definition (HD) extra low-dispersion calcium-fluoride glass lens elements reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for increased contrast, improved color rendition, and sharpness without distortion across the entire field of view
  • Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve contrast, clarity, and resolution
  • Twilight Max HD Light Management System improves color, clarity, and contrast using index-matched multi-coatings that complement the optical glass to ensure maximum light transmission across the entire visual spectrum — especially the upper blue/violet range to enhance low-light vision
  • Wide 62° apparent angle of view helps to reduce the appearance of distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics, while presenting an immersive observational experience
  • Generous 326' field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Open-bridge/dual-hinge configuration reduces weight without sacrificing strength or stability
  • Large slip-resistant center focusing wheel is easy to manipulate in cold or wet conditions, or when wearing gloves
  • Locking right-eye dioptric adjustment on focus wheel allows for precise focusing for sharper and clearer views
  • Twist-up click-stop rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear; textured for easier handling with gloves
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibrations and arm fatigue
  • Comfortable 16mm eye relief reduces eye strain for easier viewing
  • 4.2mm exit pupil will cover pupils as they open in low light to keep the entire scene in view at all times

    Leupold 172667 reviews

10x42 BX-4 Pro Guide HD Binoculars (Kryptek Typhon Camo) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extreme clarity, FAST focus, excellent light transmission As a wildlife photographer and hunter living in the vast, wide-open expanses of Wyoming, my binoculars are an essential tool. I've used top-end binoculars including Zeiss and Leica which are much more expensive. The first time in the field, these Leupold 10x42 BX-4 impressed me... and I'm NOT easily impressed. I HIGHLY recommend these. The light transmission is incredible. The clarity of the HD lenses is remarkable. The focus knob is responsive and rapidly goes from 30 yards to 300 yards with fantastic field of focus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High and Tight Performance for Glassin' I hunt thousands of acres in south Texas at varying elevation, distances, and brush cover conditions. The 10x42 model BX-4 is a perfect combination of size, weight, magnification, clarity, image uniformity, and light gathering capability. I really like the focus knob. It moves very quickly, with low friction, and is very easy to reach. The diopter adjustment is facilitated by pulling the focus knob endcap toward you, where a dial indicator is exposed. I also really like the rotating eye cups that provide perfect eye relief. They also keep your eye lashes off of the ocular lenses to avoid smudges. The objective lens caps are rubberized and attached to the objective portion of the optic, while the ocular cap is a single rubberized piece, that has a small eyelet on the left side through which you can use the lanyard attachment to connect it to the lanyard. When connected in this way, the fit of the cap is tight, but useable. I really think you want at least 10x magnification for a "do it all" optic and I think the 42mm objective is a good choice; with the light gathering capability of this optic, it makes some old 10x50 Chinese binoculars I have look like straight up garbage. 42mm objective gives a pretty wide field of view while keeping package size extremely manageable. These Leupold optics are amazing. Was a Christmas gift. A fantastic gift! Now all I want to do is sit here glassin'....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BX-4 Hd Binoculars Bought these to replace some Kahles binoculars I have had for years. I thought the Kahles were good. These BX-4's blow them away. Crystal clear and fairly lightweight. Couldn't be more pleased with them at their price.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Leupold perfection Another quality glass. I purchased these and went straight to the hills to look at wintering big game. They are very crisp and clear. Nothing better than great pair of field glasses. Thanks Leupold.
