Leupold 172677 overview

  • 1Description

Sporting large objectives, a powerful magnification, extra low-dispersion glass, and their proprietary Twilight Max HD Light Management System, Leupold 12x50 BX-4 Pro Guide HD Binoculars, in Sitka Gear's Open Country camouflage, deliver bright and sharp high-contrast images with true-to-life color and crisp clarity even when observing at long distances.

Image quality is enhanced through the use of phase-corrected coatings on the prisms. The lenses are made of high-transmittance calcium-fluoride glass, which, by their nature, limit reflection and increase color fidelity and contrast. The Twilight Max HD system complements the glass with index-matched lens coatings that were specifically engineered for the calcium-fluoride lenses to raise the already-high transmittance across the entire visible spectrum — with special emphasis on the blue and violet wavelengths that are most prevalent in low light, such as at dawn and dusk. Their large 50mm objectives gather generous amounts of light to further boost performance in less-than-ideal conditions, while a generous angle of view helps to reduce the appearance of distracting hand shake that is often associated with powerful optics. All of these optical features work together to present the user with a comfortable and immersive observational experience.

Designed to withstand the rigors of the trail, the optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to make them waterproof and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature variations. The chassis is made from an aluminum alloy to make it lightweight and corrosion resistant without sacrificing strength and stability. To further cut weight while providing users with more area to grip, Leupold employs an open-bridge configuration with a dual hinge. Its oversized, knurled center focusing wheel allows for sharp focusing even while wearing gloves. For long-duration glassing sessions, or to reduce fatigue and visible hand shake that are common with high magnifications and large objectives, the Pro Guide HD can be mounted on a tripod or other support system using an optional adapter.

Optical Performance
  • Powerful 12x magnification is optimized for long-range identification and observation
  • Large 50mm objectives are designed for maximum light gathering for use in low-light conditions, and to offset the dimming that often happens with high-power optics
  • BAK4 roof prisms deliver a round exit pupil and a crisp and clear image with limited edge distortion
  • High Definition (HD) extra low-dispersion calcium-fluoride glass lens elements reduce chromatic and spherical aberrations for increased contrast, improved color rendition, and sharpness without distortion across the entire field of view
  • Phase-corrected prism coatings reduce internal interference to improve contrast, clarity, and resolution
  • Twilight Max HD Light Management System improves color, clarity, and contrast using index-matched multi-coatings that complement the optical glass to ensure maximum light transmission across the entire visual spectrum — especially the upper blue/violet range to enhance low-light vision
  • Wide 60° apparent angle of view helps to reduce the appearance of distracting hand shake that is common when holding high-power optics, while presenting an immersive observational experience
  • 263' field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Open-bridge/dual-hinge configuration reduces weight without sacrificing strength or stability
  • Large slip-resistant center focusing wheel is easy to manipulate in cold or wet conditions, or when wearing gloves
  • Locking right-eye dioptric adjustment on focus wheel allows for precise focusing for sharper and clearer views
  • Twist-up click-stop rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear; textured for easier handling with gloves
  • Tripod mountable with optional adapter for hands-free use to eliminate vibrations and arm fatigue
  • Comfortable 16mm eye relief reduces eye strain for easier viewing
  • 4.2mm exit pupil will cover pupils as they open in low light to keep the entire scene in view at all times

12x50 BX-4 Pro Guide HD Binoculars (Sitka Open Country Camo) is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A really nice pair of Binos. I have had the Binos for about a month and took them out about a dozen times birding and sight seeing. First of all the optics are very clear very sharp and easy for me to get into focus. Focus knob is nice and smooth. The Diopter dial is located on top of the focus wheel. One must pull it up you can feel a ridge pull up adjust to your eye and push it down it will lock in place. It will stay locked until you pull it up if you ever need to.The Binos are not to big or heavy. They are very comfortable to hold because of there double hinge design. The camo pattern First Lite Fusion looks rather good I like it. The FIT and Finish is also very good. From what I understand Leupold does not make any Binos in USA at this time. Mine are made in Japan. It is so marked on the left tube on the back side.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Binoculars I have both Nikon (2) and Bushnell binoculars currently and I have nothing negative to say about those brands, just that the Leupold is a better overall optics. I have hunted in Montana for 3 years and used the Nikon /Bushnell binoculars with great success, but, based on my use so far, the Leupold is brighter and has more definition, I am looking forward to next year with my new leupold binoculars.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top notch glass I recently purchased these to replace a pair of Bear Grylls Nikon binos. I think they were like 100 dollar pair of binos, they werent very good. I dont have much to compare these to as the Nikons were junk compared to these Leupold 12x50s.  I used these Leupold 12x50s in a big snow fall in the rocky mountains and visibility was great, I was able to glass 800-1,000 yards and easily spot deer, and elk. I couldnt count points on their antlers, but without the snow it might have been possible. I didnt have any issues with glare, or fog. This is a big deal considering I hunt in less than ideal weather. Having this glass perform is a requirement for me. I would recommend to anyone purchasing binos in this price range to check these out in person. Then buy online from B&H! B&H had the best prices, shipping and processing of any online retailer I researched. I had originally ordered these from Optics Planet on a Sunday. I needed them fast, and after reading reviews online, I decided to ordered from B&H on a Tuesday. B&H already had them packaged and sent to the shipper the same day. Optics Planet still hadnt packaged my order which was made 48 hours prior. I cancelled from Optics Planet. B&H is the best.
