Olympus E-M1 Mark II Reviews
Love this camera!
Fits my hand perfectly, it's relatively small and light. It does everything I need it to do, but is, at the moment, $500 cheaper than the Mark III version. I've sold off my EM5 and E-M1 Mark I and have 2 Mark IIs now, and that will probably take care of me for at least 5 years!
An excellent Micro 4/3 camera
I recently purchased an Olympus E-M1 Mark II camera to replace my old E-M10 Mark II. I chose the Mark II over the newer Mark III because I don't need any of the additional features in the newer model. Key Specifications: 20MP Live MOS sensor 5-axis in-body image stabilization system 121-pt hybrid AF system 60 fps burst shooting (18 fps with C-AF) Fully articulating 3 LCD display High-res electronic viewfinder Cinema (DCI) and UHD 4K video 50MP High-Res Shot mode Weather-sealed body USB 3 (Type-C) Autofocusing even in low light is very good, and I was able to focus down past -4 EVs, with an f/2.8 lens. The Olympus E-M1 II has a 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization system, which enables me to take hand-held images with my longer lenses. The Olympus E-M1 Mark II is fully weather-sealed against dust, moisture and freezing temperatures. I tend to shoot in all weather conditions, which is probably the reason my old E-M10 failed. The numerous controls and buttons spread around the body remain large and easy to operate even when wearing thin gloves. I think Olympus understands that a small camera doesn't necessarily need to have small controls. The side-mounted tilt/swivel touchscreen is very useful with odd shooting angles. The articulated design also provides the benefit of entirely flipping around, which provides protection against bumps, smudges or scratches on the large LCD touch screen. The image quality of the Olympus E-M1 Mark II is excellent, showing a lot of sharp, fine detail. Maybe even superior to my old camera. The Olympus lenses also help with image quality. I uploaded an image taken with the OM-D E-M1 Mark II. In conclusion: anyone who wants a lightweight camera with great clarity, lots of great features, high-speed shooting and an advanced AF system this is the camera of choice. I highly recommend the Olympus E-M1 Mark II camera.
My second EM-1 II for back-up
The EM-1 II is a marvelous camera despite being 5 years old. I wanted to have a 2nd available as I like the camera so well. It handles superbly and works for me as a lightweight hiking-based landscape and nature photography camera, where I use the 12-40 or 12-45 and the Panasonic 35-100 F2.8 lenses and also sometimes the 8mm F1.8 FE. This very light suite of lenses provides excellent performance but I am now going to own also the Panasonic 50-200 for use in photographing wildlife while hiking and backpacking. Because of very good stabilization I carry no tripod. I use the in camera focus stacking feature very often as I make many botanical images of vascular plants and bryophytes mosses). Because of the ease of focus stacking I find my images of mosses are significantly better than almost all I find on the internet and at professional technical sources. For stacked macro images (60mm), which are usually closer to home, I do use a tripod. I also shoot birds and bees & butterflies where the EM-1 II works very well in S-AF; however the EM-1X is superior for those creatures.
The Best
Amazing camera...try one.
The GTI of cameras - anything more is diminishing returns
Fast, outrageous IBIS, and looks good too. An upgrade from an EM10 Mki (which I had been using for 7 years and it still works), I can see the difference in performance in low light and hand held shots.
Great little camera
I purchased this camera because Denise Ippolito uses it to photograph flowers. The menus are a little complex, but the camera has some really useful features, such as a kind of gyroscope that ensures a perfectly parallel shot, a valuable asset for micro photography. I found it enjoyable for photographing flowers along with the Voigtlander Nokton 42.5mm f/0.95 Micro Four Thirds Lens - a dynamite combination. I've also ordered an OLYMPUS M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 12-40MM F/2.8 PRO LENS for it, which Tony Northrup has recommended, but I haven't received it yet. Altogether, I'm very happy with this little camera.
The E-M1 Mark II is a very impressive up-grade from my E-M1
I have been very impressed and pleased with my E-M1, which I have had since 2013, but it didn't have features I wanted. The E-M1 Mark III had more than I needed. The E-M1 Mark II is spot on, and the price at B&H was very reasonable. I am very impressed with the new camera, and highly recommend it.
Great value
I was looking for a second body for street shooting as I have been using the miii for over a year. When doing a comparison there was nothing the mii could not do that I would use in my particular shooting as I am not into birding or action photography. The body delivers the promise of. m 4/3 , light to carry, comfortable in your hands, logical customizable controls and excellent IBS. Having been an Oly user for 15 years, I find their menus mostly sensible. At under $1000 the mii surrenders very little to the miii. If you are into sports or birding the mx1 is compelling otherwise putting your savings in the glass you will find amazing full featured m 4/3 that delivers the Olympus promise of great Optical performance in compact, lightweight package.
