WD WDBFBE0120JBK-NESN overview

  • 1Description

The WD My Book Duo 12TB USB 3.0 RAID Array features two 3.5" drive bays that each sport a 6TB hard drive to provide a total capacity of 12TB for USB Type-C and USB Type-A systems. The two included hard drives are WD Red drives designed for high-performance and reliability. WD has configured the drives in RAID 0 and lets you reconfigure them in RAID 1 or JBOD, using the included WD Drive Utilities software program. The My Book Duo comes with a USB 3.0 Type-C port along with two USB cables that allow you to connect to a typical USB port or a reversible USB Type-C port on the host system. With RAID 0 and USB 3.0 technology, the My Book Duo delivers sequential read speeds of up to 360 MB/s.

Other notable features include a 2-port USB 3.0 hub, which expands the host system's connections, and AES hardware encryption that helps prevent unauthorized access to sensitive data. In addition, the My Book Duo is pre-formatted in NTFS for Windows systems and requires a reformat for use with Mac.

The My Book Duo drive provides 12TB of storage capacity with a single connection. This amount of digital storage space lets you hold and back up your photos, videos, documents, and songs.
The My Book Duo is preconfigured in a RAID 0 array that grants maximum speed and capacity. Utilizing the included WD Drive Utilities software, you can reconfigure the drives in a RAID 1 for redundancy or JBOD array as two independent drives.
WD Red Drives
Two WD Red drives are included to provide high-speed and reliable storage. To help ensure read/write cycle data integrity, RAID-optimized firmware is suitable for a two-disk array system with auto management of drive operations.
With the included USB Type-C to Type-C and USB Type-C to Type-A cables, the My Book Duo supports a wide-variety of systems.
Two-Port USB 3.0 Hub
The My Book Duo drive can serve as a quasi-docking station with two USB 3.0 Type-A ports designed for accessories, such as an additional storage device, keyboard and mouse set, card reader, and mobile devices.
The My Book Duo drive comes with 256-bit AES hardware encryption with WD Security software built in to help keep private content secure. You can set a personalized password to activate hardware encryption and data protection.

    WD WDBFBE0120JBK-NESN reviews

    My Book Duo 12TB Two-Bay USB 3.0 Type-C RAID Array (2 x 6TB) is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from READ THIS BEFORE YOU BUY-LOST MY DATA I bought the older model of this WD Duo to run in a RAID 1 configuration.I used it to have a protected working/storage solution for my photography and fortunately backed it up with offsite storage. My thinking, based on the WD literature, was that if one of the drivers failed all I had to do was replace the bad drive and rebuild the RAID or I could even pull the good drive and put it in another enclosure. As it turned out, none of this was possible. A very important fact that was not in the WD literature is that there is a hardware encryption that prevents the drive from being read in any other enclosure. In my case the WD Duo enclosure went bad and while the drives were ok I had no way to read them. WD does not sell replacement enclosures. They also no longer have replacement drives for my unit. So if you are out of warranty, you are out of luck. WD’s solution to this problem is to provide you with a list of third party data recovery contractors. I contacted one of them and was told that the cost would range from $800 to $2,700 and that they would need the enclosure. If I had a working enclosure I wouldn’t need them. So without having backed up the WDDuo, I would have lost all my data. As it was I did loose the work than had been done since the last backup. I can think of no reason for WD employing hardware encryption other than to force you to buy the replacement drives from them for as long as they chose to sell them. This characteristic of the drive should be made clear in the WD literature so that people can make an informed decision in purchasing it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from RAID 1 and works fine You gotta RAID it through the WD Ultilities app. It took me a minute to figure that out but it has worked fine ever since. I have no problem editing 4K UHD video footage off of it.
