The Onyx 240 Bi-Color On-Camera LED Light from ikan has an output of roughly 250W at full power, yet draws only 30W. It is a bi-color light that enables you to adjust the color temperature of the fixture's output from 3200 to 5600K and features a CRI of 95 and TLCI of 96 in both Tungsten and Daylight. Power on/off, dimming, and color temperature are controlled from the back of the fixture via four buttons. A two-digit LED screen is shared for dimming and color temp, with an indicator light informing you of which characteristic you are controlling.

The fixture requires two L-series batteries, and ships with two batteries that are the equivalent of a 550 L-series battery and a dual battery charger. You can also power the fixture from an optional AC power supply that outputs 13 to 17 VDC. The built-in diffusion helps prevent the effect of multiple cast shadows that afflict some LED array-type lights. A built-in 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole, and the included cold shoe adapter enable mounting the fixture on your camera. Also included are a removable handle and removable light stand adapter, which mount via the 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole.

On the back of the fixture are four buttons:
  • Power on/off
  • Plus
  • Minus
  • M - select

  • The M button enables switching between dimming and color temperature. An LED indicator lights up to indicate which characteristic of the fixture you are controlling. A two digit display screen indicates dimming from 10 to 99% and color temperature from 32 to 56.
The fixture has two slots for L-Series type batteries, as well as a coaxial port for power from an optional AC adapter. When powering from batteries, you must use two batteries to power the fixture, it does not work with only one battery.

    Onyx 240 Bi-Color On-Camera LED Light is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 23.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much more than I expected! This slim, bright light put out much more light than I was expecting for such a compact and thin package. Whether I mounted it on a stand on the camera shoe- this light looked much better on the subject and on the job that I could have possibly expected at this price point. Just like its little brother I also ordered from B&H, this light has a shoe mount, light stand adapter and handle (for hollywooding) with a smart design that prevents rotation while attached. I will definitely be adding more of these lights to my kit. I would prefer knobs to buttons but controlling dimming or color temperature is still relatively simple.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from A very good light I had been using the Switronix TorchLED Bolt for that last few years. The Bolt was good but this Onyx is much better in regards to its color accuracy and the soft, even lighting it produces. The Bolt was spotty and the whites were always a little off with it. The only issue I have with the light so far is that it does not have dials to adjust brightness and color temp, when shooting an event like a wedding where you might be running from one area to the next and encountering different lighting situations the dials work better than tiny buttons, the buttons also make a clicking noise so your mic may pick them up if you try to adjust settings on the light while the camera is recording. In closing this light is very much worth the money and I highly recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Buy it on sale before it's too late We now have three 240's plus one 120. Throws off a soft blanket of accurate color temp light without using filter plates. Lightweight with an impressive build quality. I've dealt with the Ikan Corp out of Texas in the past with returns and tech support with no issues whatsoever. They pick up the phone and answer emails believe it or not. Great value for your money ...Read what's in the box. You can buy the proper dedicated power supply at BH for 20 bucks. Thx ikan and BH

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bright, Rugged, professional LED at affordable price I picked up a few of the Ikan Onyx lights as its always good to have small compact, battery operated LED lights in ones kit as you never know when you will need them. Needless to say, these are some great lights. I got two of the smaller Onyx 120's and one of the Onyx 240 The Onyx lights are rugged, built out of metal (aluminum) they can take a beating. The light output is amazing for a a small compact fixture that is bi-color. The run time on a pair of NP battery is also very impressive, about 3 to 4 hours or more on the larger NP 970 battery. I used the smaller Onyx 120s on my Discovery Science Channel special as the only light while exploring the Chernobyl Nuclear Complex and the city of Pripyat. In the attached photos you can see how bright one single 120 unit is. The only thing lighting the scenes in both photos is the Ikan Onyx bouncing off the walls. (I have a small headlamp so I can see the controls on the camera and geiger counter) I can't recommend this product enough, tough, bright, and compact.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great build quality B&H had this light on sale, so I bought a couple to try. I'm glad I made the purchase. The build quality is very good and the CRI / TLCI color accuracy is about the best I have seen. This LED is light weight and compact, with amazing output. I got two Impact light stands to go along with these. Now I need to find a case just the right size to carry two lights with batteries and chargers, and another case for the light stands.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid, wide projection and bright. I bought this mainly for astrophotography because of it's wide angle projection. I use a Sigma 14 to 24, 2.8 which has a 115 deg. angle and this has a 110 deg angle (I think). It dims to 10 percent, I only need 1 percent so I'm using neutral density gel to cut down the light. Made of aluminum and a little heavy but I'm willing to bet it can handle quite a shock. Bright, smooth dimming, and a good price. If it dimmed to 1% I'd give it a 5th star.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Defective unit The light is great, looks solid, very bright, and color is accurate. However, I got a defective unit, and sending it back is not worth. The problem is that sometimes the orange LEDs simply dont turn on. I have to turn the unit off, remove the battery, and restart, and suddenly like magic the orange LEDs come alive. In a situation of professional shooting, this can be very annoying, so I keep it in 5600K all the time (cause the white leds always work). This shows lack of quality control from IKan , which will prevent me to go with them again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A HOMERUN for Wedding Videography Where has this light been all my life? If you currently use an on or off camera LED light for wedding photo or video and the hot spots drive you crazy, this light will blow your mind. I use to struggle to evenly light more than one person with the TorchLED. This light has an incredibly soft even light to cover more area, but it doesn't just end there. The color accuracy is insane. No more orangish/ yellow tungsten light that you have to try and blend with daylight to prevent horrible skin tones. No more guessing the color temperature of the light. Not only is this light accurately dimmable from 0-99, you can also dial the temperature of the light to match your camera's kelvin. Everything is conveniently displayed on the back of the light. The button layout is great. By far the best LED light I've found so far. It's got all the bells and whistles. The hotshoe mount is the most well thought out I've seen (no more light flopping around on a ball head). I can't say enough about this light. Just buy it!
