Intel 2.8 GHz overview

  • 1Description

The Intel Core i5-8400 2.8 GHz 6-Core LGA 1151 Processor features six cores, with each one operating between 2.8 and 4.0 GHz for editing digital content, streaming live gameplay, and running other types of intensive tasks. This 8th-generation Intel Core i5-8400 processor is built on Coffee Lake architecture and armed with 9MB of cache memory. This processor is compatible with motherboards that sport an LGA 1151 socket and an Intel 300-series chipset, so the CPU can provide up to sixteen PCIe 3.0 lanes for NVMe storage drives, graphics cards, and other high-performance parts.

Intel has equipped the Intel Core i5-8400 processor with an integrated Intel UHD Graphics 630 chipset that outputs up to 4K visuals through your motherboard's DisplayPort and HDMI ports. When connected to a DisplayPort-enabled monitor, the Intel UHD Graphics 630 can produce 4096 x 2304 resolution at 60 Hz. Running under a 4K resolution lets you enjoy ultra high-definition videos as well as view more information onscreen when compared to working in a lower resolution workspace.

Aside from graphics, the Intel Core i5-8400 processor has an average power requirement of 65W and supports DDR4 2666 MHz memory modules, running in a dual- or single-channel configuration. Furthermore, included along with the Intel Core i5-8400 processor is a fan and heatsink thermal solution for cooling the chip.

    Intel 2.8 GHz reviews

    Core i5-8400 2.8 GHz 6-Core LGA 1151 Processor is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 18.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Value CPU on market 6 CORES for Under $200 Runs better then my 7600K in almost every way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best bang for the buck Intel CPU I've seen to date First off I have to thank B&H for having this CPU in stock and NOT trying to price gouge at 3x the normal price like some of the other vendors when the supply started getting scarce around the beginning of the year. As for the CPU it outperformed my old i7-4790K @ 4.6GHz on IntelBurnTest by a decent margin and is an all around performer effortlessly taking whatever I threw at it all while staying cool (60 C max, 40 C average, <30 C Idle) with air cooling. To bad I couldn't keep it because the PC I built was for someone else. Maybe next time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Runs hot After getting everything up and running, noticed high temps. Reconfigured the setup, lowered the temps, but this processor does not like to be overclocked. Intel and board makers should make this processor more compatible with previous system designs. only partly pleased with the upgrade!!!! Thinking of reverting to my way old system as this thing does not provide great improvements. I've been building my own systems since the 80"s (do you remember DOS 1. Never encountered some much trouble.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changed my life Coming from the older generation AMD CPU's, this one has changed my life. Lightning quick, decent at mulit-tasking as well. My gaming experience has changed forever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fast AMD has to force Intel to do what they should have done a while back. The processor is very fast and it doesn't take time for you to notice it. My application are moving faster (Office Applications), even my games are even better. I did the pre-order thing with B&H got mine in 27 days and it is what the wait.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Same performanceas I7 6700k overclocked Great cpufor $200 with performance equivalent to a overclocked i7 6700k which still sells for $300 and requires aftermarket cooler. the stock cooler in a budget case allows the cpu to go no higher than 73c at absolute max load.
