This NiSi 150mm Professional Filter Kit includes five 150mm-wide filters that can be used individually or in various combinations to improve the results of your photography by preventing overexposure, as well as a linear polarizer to prevent distracting reflections or glare.

To place these filters in front of a lens, a separately available NiSi 150mm filter holder which is compatible with that lens may be used. Each filter is constructed from optical glass and measures 2mm thick.

A leatherette pouch is included for storage and transport, as well as a microfiber cleaning cloth and a carbon-compound cleaning eraser to maintain the clarity of the filters' surfaces.

  • 150 x 170mm Nano Soft-Edge Graduated IRND 0.9 Filter (3-Stop)

    The NiSi 150 x 170mm Nano Soft-Edge Graduated IRND 0.9 Filter is a rectangular filter that helps to darken specific areas of an image, such as bright skies, while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the other regions of the image. The filter is densest at the edge and tapers to clear by the middle, with a soft-edged line of transition between the dense and clear areas. A neutral density filter with a soft-edged line of transition is particularly useful for images that do not have a strongly defined transition between the sky and the foreground. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and this filter provides up to a 3-stop reduction in light from entering the lens.

    The design of this filter has been optimized for use with digital sensors and to promote nearly flat attenuation of visible and infrared light.     This Nano Hard-Edge Reverse-Graduated IRND 0.9 to 0.15 Filter from NiSi is compatible with filter holders that can accommodate 2mm-thick, 150 x 170mm rectangular filters. It can be applied to darken bright skies, specifically during a sunrise or sunset, while allowing for a normal, unaffected exposure in the other regions of the image.

    This filter achieves its effect with a 0.9 band of density across its center region that provides a 3-stop reduction in light from entering a lens. This band extends approximately 4mm in both vertical directions which tapers to a 0.15 density that provides a 0.5-stop reduction in light at the edge above it. Directly below the 0.9 band of density, it tapers to clear, with a hard-edged line of transition before the clear area.

    The placement of a 0.9 band of density that tapers to a density of 0.15 above it with a clear area directly below, allows the NiSi 150 x 170mm Nano Reverse-Graduated IRND 0.9 to 0.15 Filter to match the positioning of the sun when it is at, or immediately above the horizon. In such instances, the sun can appear closer to the center of an image as opposed to the upper edge, and an increase in brightness is created that is more prominent on both sides of the sun than above it. This pattern of brightness corresponds to the density pattern on the NiSi 150 x 170mm Nano Hard-Edge Reverse-Graduated IRND 0.9 to 0.15 Filter. The hard-edged line of transition in this reverse, graduated neutral density filter is useful for hard transitions between the sky and land, while the 3-stop to 0.5-stop gradation is applicable to multiple regions of brightness within the sky.

  • 150 x 150mm Linear Polarizer Filter

    The NiSi 150 x 150mm Linear Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

    A linear polarizer differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not contain an additional quarter wave plane. The addition of a quarter wave plane is to circularly polarize linearly polarized light for the use of auto focus and exposure functions. Due to how the light is broken down and filtered with a linear polarizer, in-camera auto focus and exposure accuracy become skewed during use. When the light becomes circularly polarized, it permits the use of these functions.

    This filter is recommended when not using in-camera exposure metering or autofocus. It is made using a process that involves laminating a layer of polarizing film between 2 pieces of optical glass. The glass layers are then ground flat to maintain image sharpness.

    The NIP-C150 Filter Case from NiSi is designed to provide a secure and convenient, transport and storage solution for any combination of up to six NiSi 150 x 150mm or 150 x 170mm filters. Filters placed within the NIP-C150 Filter Case are each held within one of six nonabrasive slots.

    This rigid filter case features a leatherette exterior and magnetic closure.
