Weird Design

Purchased the T-Handle for my RED DSMC2 with RED tactical top plate and for some reason, the plate that comes with the handle doesn't fit ANY multitude of threads. I now have to custom make a cheese plate to be able to adapt this hand for my camera. Save the hassle and buy something else.

Should've listened to my instincts months ago when this handle started to wiggle without any heavy use. My nightmares were finally realized when this slipped off the hot shoe of the Lumix s1H with a Sigma MC-21 and Canon 24-70mm f2.8 combo and sent it crashing to the ground. Thankfully it happened inside but i am appalled that a product of this price and company would fail so miserably

For the price, I expected more

Built very solid and attached to my S1H's hotshoe. First few days it was super solid and felt like it was part of the camera. The S1H is a heavy camera on top of the fact I had a SHAPE cage and shotgun mic attached as well, I was super impressed. However, it's been a few weeks of fairly light use (Bought during lockdown, only shot stuff in-house) and there is already a small but noticeable wiggle with the handle. It no longer feels like its a part of the camera and I am hesitant to build out my rig further. I've tried attaching to my much smaller A7Si and the wiggle is still present.

Gorgeous & well-priced

Locks really well to any shoe and fits well in the hand. It's a bit shinier then the matte look in this picture, but as a Canadian I love the little detail of "Made In Canada" on the top of the handle.

A must have.

Great item, allows me much more scope with my GH4. Also has the ability to add on to as I get a little more adventurous and experienced. Also, great service from B&H, better than some here in Australia-will be using B&H again :)

A must have for all dslr video shooters!

Loving this new setup for my rig the possibilities seem endless with all of the threaded hole and super convenient rod mount bloc. I will be using this on all my shoots and highly recommend it for anyone who wants a solid feeling rig with an awesome form factor and amazing grip. The notches for your fingers make it really solid and stable in the hand.

It's basic but it's great. Lots of 1/4 20 and 3/8ths spots, and 4 cold shoes in a simple top handle.

Great if the screws line up

A super solid handle with plenty of arri locating pins, but doesn't line up with the holes in my cage. You have to mount it with the plate and the cage doesn;t line up your options are pretty limited.

That mounting point does not exist on ARRI PCA Mechanical Accessories. However, you can use the SHAPE Controller Top Handle with Universal Attachment System.

Does this top handle have a hot shoe connector at it's base? If so, how does it work if the XLR1 adapter is connected to the camera's hot shoe?
Asked by: Jonathan
Hello Jon, Thank you for your question! This top handle was designed so it can be attached at the top front of cages when audio units are also used. It leaves enough space to attach an audio unit on top of cages. This handle does not have a hotshoe connector. You can see an example of how it's used here: We hope this helps and we thank you for your interest in our products. The SHAPE team

Can the hotshoe mount be unscrewed from this if I wanted to screw my own mounting attachment?
Asked by: Nicholas
Yes. It is a bolt through design with 1/4 20 and 3/8 threaded holes. I have a cheese plate on my camera top and direct mounted it to the plate to take all the stress off the flash mount. I am not sure I would want to directly mount this to a cold shoe for camera carrying. It has several threaded points of both sizes throughout and drilled all the way through both top to bottom and side to side. No chance of a long mount screw bottoming out. It is the highest quality, most affordable and lowest profile handle I have ever used in 25 years in the biz.One warning, without the cold shoe mount there is only like a half inch of clearance if you direct mount this to a plate. I turned it around and hung it out over the lens to give my fingers some room, but you might need to spacer it a bit if you are mounting it to a large plate.
