In regard to the optical design, this lens employs one aspherical element and four low dispersion elements to realize sharp, clear imagery void of both chromatic and spherical aberrations. A Super EBC coating has also been applied to suppress flare and ghosting when working in bright and backlit conditions. Additionally, enabling the lens's use in harsh environments, it is weather-sealed and also features a fluorine coating on the front element to guard against moisture, smudging, and dust.

Short telephoto prime lens is designed for APS-C-format FUJIFILM X-mount mirrorless cameras and provides a 122mm equivalent focal length.
Macro lens affords a life-size 1:1 magnification ratio along with a 9.8" minimum focusing distance for working with close-up subjects.
Four extra-low dispersion elements, including one Super ED element, are used to greatly reduce color fringing and chromatic aberrations in order to produce high clarity and color fidelity.
One aspherical element controls distortion, curvature of field, and spherical aberrations, which helps to improve sharpness and realize more accurate rendering.
Super EBC coating has been applied to individual elements to reduce lens flare and ghosting for improved contrast and color fidelity when working in strong lighting conditions.
Floating Focus System employs two distinct groups of focusing elements for faster performance as maintained image quality throughout the focusing range.
Linear motor autofocus system delivers smooth, near-silent performance that is especially beneficial to video applications and when working in noise-sensitive areas.
Focus range limiter switch allows you to constrain the focus range to between 9.8" to 1.6', 1.6' to infinity, or for the whole 9.8" to infinity range for more responsive focusing depending on the distance to your subject.
A five stop-effective optical image stabilization system minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting in low-light conditions and with slower shutter speeds.
The lens body is weather-sealed to protect against dust and moisture, and to enable worry-free use in inclement conditions. Additionally, this design also permits working in temperatures as low as 14°F.
A fluorine coating has been applied to the front lens element to guard against smudging, moisture, and dust.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality.
Compatible with optional XF 1.4x TC WR and XF 2x TC WR teleconverters for extending the effective focal length to an equivalent 171mm and 244mm, respectively.

Great handling, top quality macro lens

This lens is a joy to shoot with. The OIS is very effective for handheld shots. The wide barrel makes it easy to reach for manual focus adjustments while keeping your eye to the viewfinder/screen. The focus-by-wire that adjusts rate of focus based on how rapidly you turn the focus barrel works superbly in combination with the very accurate focus peaking. You can easily dial in manual focus millimeter by millimeter. If using autofocus, it is silent and fast, especially considering the amount of glass in this. My one complaint is that on mine the aperture ring is fairly imprecise, I would like it to be more clicky on the f-stops. And of course image quality is superb, as is build quality. Yes it's big, but on my XH-1 with the extra grip, it's well balanced. I wouldn't want to use this for long on my X-E3!

Excellent, sharp lens

This is an excellent, very sharp lens. It's relatively large and heavy for a lens for a cropped sensor camera but the quality of the macro and short telephoto images it produces more than makes up for the extra size and weight. As a 1:1 macro lens on a 1 cropped sensor, an object 1 wide just fills the image (which is effectively greater magnification than a 1:1 macro on a full frame camera where a 1 1/2 object just fills the screen. Using this lens with the Fujifilm 1.4 teleconverter (which fits on this lens) and the 11mm and 16mmextension tubes gives the lens a magnification of about 2.25. See attached photo of a dime.

Great lens - opened up a new realm for me

First, let me say it is a great lens. I have wanted to get into macro photography for a while and this is my first attempt. I frequently walk in the forest and take photos of interesting subjects. A lot of my photos are of small things I find and I was looking for a lens that was designed for the purpose. The Fuji 80mm does a very nice job. The photos are sharp and the color rendition is exceptional. The OIS feature makes it possible to hand hold a lot of shots that would require a tripod without it. Focusing is fast and there is a switch that allows you to limit the range in exchange for even faster focusing. The only negative comments I can make are that it is heavy and kind of expensive. I have decided that those are not major issues as long as I can get some good pictures. So far, I am very pleased with the results. If you are undecided, I would say you will not be disappointed with the photographs you are able to obtain. The attached photo was shot on the first day I went out with my new lens.

Tack sharp macro

I have been using multiple Fuji lenses coupled with the extension tubes for both field and studio macro shots. For field work that set up was so so. After using the 80mm f2.8 it was amazing. Using the shortest focusing perameters hand held and set for auto focus it was spot on for moving subjects. I have been using it for studio macro shots both static and splash art with flash . This set up with the XT4 really is hard to beat. Utilizing the on board image stabilization along with the lens stabilization produces tack sharp results

Excellent Macro Lens

I've been using this lens for a couple of months. The image quality is excellent. It looks like it will be a good backup lens for portraiture, but it has been mostly shooting flowers. Obviously you don't get to test the OIS while on the tripod when doing macro. That said I tried a few macro shots handheld with decent luck. The negatives are pricey compared to some shorter macro lenses, and it's fairly big, but it gets the job done. Bright with good color.

Needs a tripod mount!

Needs a tripod mount or an option to purchase one! A lens this heavy needs some kind of support system. It is extremely sharp lens wide open, but using it on over 50% of fuji's smaller cameras will cause a front heavy system. I'll keep based on image quality, not ergonomics

I'm currently practicing macro with a short macro tube on the Fuji 18-55mm on an X-T20. I feel like I have to do a lot of stacking with the macro tube to get enough of the picture on focus. If I switched to this lens, would there be any noticeable difference in depth of field?
Asked by: Matt
Macro lenses have shallow DOF by nature and require focus stacking as well, but the optical quality will be superior to the setup you are using now.

I have the Fujifilm 60mm macro lens. What is the advantage of the Fujifilm 80mm over the 60mm?
Asked by: Kathryn
The FUJIFILM XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro is a better lens optically than the Fuji 60mm macro lens--sharper and with better contrast. The 80mm lens is also a true macro lens, focusing to a 1:1 magnification ratio; the 60mm lens focuses only to a 1:2 magnification ratio.

What distance from lens to object is it necessary to capture an entire engagement ring?
Asked by: Belen
The minimum focus distance of the Fujifilm XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro Lens is 9.84" / 25 cm, and should be appropriate to fit all of an engagement ring into the shot, when used with a Fujifilm APS-C camera. You will likely need to crop the image.

I want to do focus stacking. Does this Lens do focus breathing, ie the image slightly moves as you focus?
Asked by: Bob
If you want to do stacking and not lose res due to the slight crop needed from breathing, you'll want to get a focusing rail IMO. This way it'll move the whole camera in fine adjustments then you can stack like crazy. You can still stack with this lens without a focusing rail, but there may be a tiny bit of cropping since just about every macro lens will "focus breathe". It's not a flaw, it's a characteristic of focusing. In order to not have that effect, as in some high-end Cine lenses, they actually have to make a zoom mechanism in the lens, that simultaneously zooms the image slightly, while focusing to offset the breathing effect, thereby eliminating "breathing". It's not a good lens, bad lens kinda thing. You want to stack the right way, get a focusing rail. Hope this helps! Cheers.
