RODE VXLR+ Overview

The Rode VXLR+ is an adapter that lets you connect a mic equipped with a 3.5mm TRS connector to the XLR input of a professional camera, recorder, or mixer.

The VXLR+ also converts 12 to 48V phantom power down to 3 to 5V plug-in power, allowing lavalier, headset, and shotgun mics to receive power from the XLR connector.

Compact and lightweight, the adapter is terminated by a 3.5mm female TRS connector at one end and an XLR male connector at the other. The 3.5mm connector is threaded to ensure your mic doesn't disconnect during recording.

The VXLR+ is designed to convert high voltage phantom power used with pro balanced XLR mic inputs into much lower bias voltage (plug-in power) that is needed by many unbalanced electret condenser mics like lavalier mics and shotgun style camera mics.

Yes, a non-threaded 3.5mm input will work with the RODE VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter, the threading is simply for locking connections.

If I plug a stereo mic to the VXLR+, does it mix both channels into one mono? Or this just uses one of both stereo channels?

If it is a stereo mic it should have two VXLR connectors, one for each channel so you would need two adapters.

I'd like to use the 9V battery powered Rode Videomic (VIDEOMIC-R) to connect with a Zoom PodTrak P4. Will a standard VXLR converter work with that, or do I need this VXLR+ for it? Thanks!

Hello Stan, I show the TR50 as a XLR connection and therefore it would not. If there is a TR50 available with a 3.5mm TRS connector then yes, this will work for you.

This adapter will not balance the microphone signal. You can use it to connect stereo 3.5mm wired microphones to XLR inputs. This version does have a transformer balanced output: https://bhpho.to/2WQbqxK

Can this be used as an adapter for PA's or DJ's desks into a XLR input on a recorder?

The Rode VXLR+ 3.5mm TRS Female to XLR Male Adapter with Phantom Power Converter is typically used to adapt microphones with 3.5mm wiring to XLR inputs, however this adapter could presumably work in the same manner with a line level 3.5mm connection from a DJ deck into a line level XLR input on a recorder.
