Rated 5 out of 5 by from good deal I purchased this K 3 II because of the savings with the included battery grip which was $7.00 over the cost of the K 3 II alone it allowed me to upgrade from a K 5 II so I now have the K 3 and K 3 II

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rugged for camera with a lot of features It is what I was expecting from Pentax a camera built like a tank with features to please most of the photographic needs. the ergonomics make the transition from my previous camera smooth and comfortable, even with the amount of options all are easily manageable with the different menus and customizable buttons. Surely a 5 stars

Rated 5 out of 5 by from BIGGEST bang for your photobouck yet. Since it's pretty well established that the current KP is NOT Pentax's "successor" to the K-3 II, this camera (though discontinued, but still plentiful on the retail shelves) remains Pentax's TOL "Prosumer" camera, at least until they introduce something to fire across the Canikon bow... if they ever do. The features included on the KP that are absent from the K-3 II, from the comparisons I've read and seen handling both, are minimal and unless ALL of your shooting is in ultra-ULTRA-low light, they're genuinely negligible. Yes, the KP has a ridiculously extreme ISO range, but that's not part of my palette, and the ISO capability of the K-3II is already so good that I'll never notice the difference. The auto-focus is sharper, much faster and overall much improved compared to my previous K200D. Both the AF and ISO are on-par with my buddy's Nikon D3000(something..3300?), but for a LOT less money. Despite the KP's superiority in low light, the K-3 II's low-light function, in all aspects, is excellent and far above par for its class; this ability is particularly important since the K-3II has NO built-in, pop-up flash, that having been traded off for built-in GPS. The viewer screen rotation when rolling over to portrait mode is almost TOO good, BTW, and happens quickly, so you have to be handy with it. All the other functions and photo editing features are fast, easy to get to extremely effective. The genuine advantage feature of this camera vs. the KP, however, is that as a previous (lifelong, actually) Pentax owner, the top-screen readout and mode-function buttons remain unchanged, so even minimum familiarity with the old Pentax switches and menus had me up and running in almost no time; more advanced Pentax users will be able to jump right in. Finally, the included battery grip can make the whole package a little heavy, but it's just the right size and is a great value bonus, especially since it preserves button functions in portrait mode and MY favorite Pentax-only bonus; the ability to shoot with the proprietary battery OR AA Lithium batteries, simply by switching out the battery carrier in the grip, which is accessible, even with a strap fastened on or mounted to a tripod. This means NEVER being stranded if you run out of juice, since you can just hop into the nearest drug store and you're good to go. Bottom line, all of the above, plus continuing the Pentax K-Mount comparability makes this "kit" a great bargain, even if it doesn't include the usual 18-55 DA kit lens, which are easy enough to get used and in mint condition, given how quickly they are often traded in from buyers of other models. For a few hundred dollars LESS than a KP, at least $500 less than a comparable Canikon, and with no true successor on the horizon from Ricoh/Pentax, you can't beat it. Get'em while they're hot, people. In case you can't tell, while I "liked" my K200D as my foray into DSLR after owning an ME Super for 30+ years, I absolutely LOVE the K-3 II.
