A true successor to the iconic 1958 Leitz Trinovid, and a mid-sized model in the series, the Leica 8x40 Trinovid Binocular elegantly and seamlessly combines the original's timeless design while enjoying the performance improvements afforded by today's optical technologies — all in an incredibly compact form factor that makes carrying and using it all day easy and comfortable.

Engineered with the precision that users have come to expect from the brand, the Trinovid utilizes the original Uppendahl prism configuration that enables the optical tubes to made shorter and thinner so they fit comfortably in the hand and take up less space. P40 phase-correcting prism coatings, combined with Leica's HighLux system, limit internal light-loss and eliminate interference for improved clarity, sharpness, and contrast. The objective lenses are fully multi-coated with their HDC coatings for maximum light transmission through the optical path to ensure accurate color fidelity and high-contrast views, especially in challenging lighting conditions. These technologies work together, and complement each other, to produce an immersive observational experience with bright images that are clear and sharp across a field of view that approaches wide-angle. The combination of magnification and objective lens size helps to produce a wide exit pupil that is often absent in smaller optics, which helps to keep images bright in challenging light conditions while ensuring complete coverage as the user's pupils open and fully dilate in as the day fades — increasing the binocular's usability into the dawn and dusk hours.

Built to withstand the rigors of the outdoors, the chassis is made of a lightweight and durable aluminum-alloy that has been anodized with an elegant black finish and wrapped in a protective slip-resistant rubber armor for sure handling. The optical tubes are nitrogen-filled and O-ring sealed to be waterproof, and resistant to internal fogging when moving through extreme temperature changes or conditions. A generous interpupillary adjustment range, broad ±4 dioptric correction, comfortable 15mm eye relief, and four-position click-stop eyecups ensures easy and precise use by most people. From its exceptional optical performance to the thoughtful construction details, this smaller mid-sized Trinovid delivers performance while being comfortable in the hand during long observation sessions on the trail, at the range, in the stadium, or sightseeing around town.

Optical Performance
  • Moderate 8x magnification helps to maintain image brightness and a wide exit pupil
  • 40mm objective lenses increase light gathering ability versus smaller objectives while maintaining a compact form factor
  • Short and compact Uppendahl roof prisms provide exceptional performance while allowing the optical tubes to be shorter and thinner versus conventional roof prisms for easier handling
  • P40 phase-corrected prism coatings increases contrast and clarity while eliminating halos and comas
  • Highly-reflective HLS (HighLux System) prism coatings reduce internal light loss
  • HDC anti-reflection fully multi-coated optics increase light transmission throughout the entire optical path to improve color rendition, brightness, clarity, and contrast
  • Dirt- and water-repellent AquaDura coating on outer lens surfaces makes them easy to clean, to ensure clear views
  • 59° apparent angle of view approaches wide angle
  • 387-foot field of view at 1000 yards
Use and Handling
  • Closed-bridge configuration houses the completely internal focusing mechanism
  • Knurled center focusing wheel provides smooth and precise focusing
  • ±4 right-eye dioptric correction range for precise focus adjustment to most user's individual prescription, adjustment dial located on front of center bridge hinge
  • 55-75mm interpupillary adjustment range
  • Twist-up four-position click-stop rubber eyecups for comfortable use with or without eyewear
  • Comfortable 15mm eye relief reduces eye strain and makes long-duration glassing sessions comfortable
  • Wide 5mm exit pupil will cover pupils when they dilate in low light for clearer views without vignetting
