Expand your capabilities with the Xcellon Portside Dock for MacBook Pro & Air. The matching aluminum finish offers users a unified look and it's compact enough to fit in your everyday bag. It converts the dual Thunderbolt 3 ports on the side of your system into seven options: a Thunderbolt 3 pass-through, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, both an SD and microSD card reader, and a 60 Hz HDMI port. Its primary USB Type-C port, acting as a Thunderbolt 3 pass-through, offers data, video, and even power transfer. User can then take advantage of the second USB Type-C port for charging. Combined with HDMI, it can offer users a method for setting up a multi-monitor workspace. Users can also access its SD and microSD card slots for conveniently transferring data from mobile devices.

Please note to never connect two power sources to the USB Type-C ports at the same time.

Xcellon Portside Dock Overview

Expand your capabilities with the Xcellon Portside Dock for MacBook Pro & Air. The matching aluminum finish offers users a unified look and it's compact enough to fit in your everyday bag. It converts the dual Thunderbolt 3 ports on the side of your system into seven options: a Thunderbolt 3 pass-through, a USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port, two USB 3.0 Type-A ports, both an SD and microSD card reader, and a 60 Hz HDMI port. Its primary USB Type-C port, acting as a Thunderbolt 3 pass-through, offers data, video, and even power transfer. User can then take advantage of the second USB Type-C port for charging. Combined with HDMI, it can offer users a method for setting up a multi-monitor workspace. Users can also access its SD and microSD card slots for conveniently transferring data from mobile devices.

Please note to never connect two power sources to the USB Type-C ports at the same time.

Please note that using this dock with a 14.2" or 16.2" Macbook Pro 2021, 2022, or 2023 model will block the MagSafe and audio connections.

Primary USB Type-C Port
The primary USB Type-C port is a Thunderbolt 3 pass-through port, supporting data transfer speeds of up to 40 Gb/s, 100 W of power delivery, and a single 5K monitor.
Secondary USB Type-C Port
The secondary USB Type-C port supports Power Delivery 3.0 for up to 100 W of pass-through charging. It also adheres to USB 3.1 Gen 1 Standards for data transfer speeds of up to 5 Gb/s.
SD & microSD Card Slots
SD and microSD card slots let users quickly transfer data from portable devices. They can achieve UHS-I speeds of up to 104 MB/s.
5K or Dual 4K Video Output
The primary USB Type-C port can support a single 5K monitor up even dual 4K monitors with an optional dual display adapter. The HDMI supports a 4K monitor as well for a multi-monitor setup to enjoy high-definition movies, shows, and presentations.
USB 3.1 Gen 1
USB 3.1 Gen 1 features a maximum throughput of 5 Gb/s. USB 3.1 Gen 1 and USB 3.0 are synonymous.

I ordered this hub to attach a 27 curved monitor while avoiding the Mac Monitor prices. Everything was great with one exception - it did not have the lightening cable that you must use for power. The video is great. It's nice to take my MacBook with a simple unplugging of one device. I had to scavenge my iPad Pro power cable. Wish it had been either included or suggested.

On the MB Pro 16", does this cover the power input, i.e. can you only use it on battery power?

I don't see a MagSafe attachment on this hub, and the hub definitely covers the MagSafe port on my 2022 MacBook Pro 14, so I can't see how this is useable with a MagSafe MacBook.

Yes, both memory card slots function at the same time. If you connect an external reader, it will also work at the same time.
