Dracast 2000B overview

  • 1Description

Dracast has put together the LED2000 Kala Bi-Color LED 3-Light Kit to give image makers the benefit of superior light quality in the studio or on the road. The kit includes three 25 x 15 x 2" LED2000 Bi-Color panels with all metal construction, a 45-degree beam angle, and onboard DMX. Each light comes with removable 4-way barndoors, a diffusion filter, V-mount battery plate, multi-voltage AC adapter, a soft nylon case, and a light stand. A Travel Case is also included for storage and transport.

  • LED2000 Kala Bi-Color LED Panel

Another addition to Dracast's extensive line of LED panels, the all metal, 20 x 15 x 2" LED2000 Kala Bi-Color LED Panel offers color temperature with a high CRI of 96 that's variable from 3200-5600K for quickly matching either other fixtures or ambient light conditions without spending time resorting to gels. Light intensity is also variable from 0-100% and both color and dimming can be controlled remotely via onboard DMX or with the added enhancement of wireless IR control that can make adjustments at distances up to 100'. Labeled "IRR", this function not only works with Kala lights but also with Silq series lights or multiple lights that includes both series.

Offering directional control, the Kala has a medium-spot beam angle of 45 degrees that can be further modified using the included, removable barndoors. The panel is ready for worldwide use thanks to the included multi-voltage power adapter, but Dracast has also provided a V-mount plate for optional batteries when in situations where mains power is unavailable. A soft diffusion panel is also included to take to edge off of the LEDs' output.

Dracast 2000B reviews

LED2000 Kala Bi-Color LED 3-Light Kit is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Lights work great, but some manufacturing/QC issues. I'm giving these lights 3 starts for several reasons. My experience so far has been: -Purchased and received the lights. One power adapter did not work. One panel had 4 3200k LED diodes out. One panel was daylight only (I ordered a bi-color kit). So right out of the gate, it was a bad start. I returned the kit to B&H, and besides the fact that it was a gigantic 100lb box, the return process was easy and B&H was helpful as always. So, cut to- -Receive my 2nd kit. Everything seems to work fine. We take it on the first shoot (the shoot we bought the lights for), and as I'm setting up the first light stand the leg completely snaps off the base. I mean I barely began to open it and it broke off like it was made of dry play-doh. There was also an issue of the power adapter cable showing some exposed wiring at the connection point to the light. Overall, all of these issues come down to very poor quality control on the manufacturers end. OK- Now why it earned 3 stars instead of 1. Without the issues listed above I would probably give these lights 5 stars. THE GOOD: The lights themselves seem to be built well. Aluminum frame, good sturdy yoke, aluminum tightening knobs. The lights are plenty bright for an interview setting. The color seems to be pretty nice- no noticeable green tint. I saw some reviews saying that the machining for the screw thread that holds on the diffusion is poor, but that was not the case for me. Screws threaded just fine and the diffusion was easy to remove and replace, although I'm sure the metal used for that isn't the highest quality and could be damaged if you brute force the screw- so just be gentle. The barn doors seem well built and sturdy. They haven't been put through a ton of use yet though so we'll see if they loosen up and flop around, but they seem nice and tight so far. The buttons on the back that allow you to switch from 3200,4000,5000,5600 are really convenient for a quick lighting change. May only save seconds of your time but I think it's a cool feature. Really I don't have any complaints about the lights themselves. So far I would give the lights 5 stars. You may want to have better light stands on standby (or even a c-stand worked great as these lights are a little on the heavy side.) My problem with this kit is that- like most Chinese made equipment- they seemed to really cheap out on the small parts and quality control. Little things they may have thought they could get away with (like the cheap plastic that holds light stand legs together) that will cause frustrating problems in the future. For the cost of this kit, I was hoping for a little better quality control. Oh, also the case that comes with it is incredibly large. And they put a lot of effort into packing foam around the case to keep it safe in shipping but there is a lot of empty space inside the case that allows the smaller LED cases to bang around. This could have been the reason my first kit had some issues, who knows. So if you're reading this Draco Broadcast- put some filler airbags or something inside the hard case when shipping this!!! I will say that their customer service has been VERY helpful so far, which is good to know when buying a Chinese made product. Inevitably you run the risk of getting a dud here and there, but what makes the difference is how quickly the company will respond to your issue. In my case they have been extremely responsive and even called me to make sure they were getting everything right when resending a power adapter and light stand. So overall, 5 star lights, but 3 star kit for the price and the low quality of the small parts and accessories.
