Timbuk2 Uptown Backpack reviews

Uptown Backpack (Surplus) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 164.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Structurally sound and in regs I am in the military and I need a plain black bag to carry stuff in every day and to make short trips with. I recently took a four-day trip to a moderate climate and I fit a pair of boots, a pair of sandals, 4 days change of clothes, toiletries. a huge textbook, and my 15" laptop and my kindle fire with room to spare. With all that capacity, one would expect the bag to be bulky and saggy but it was structurally sound and comfortable to wear. Everyone else had a rolling suitcase to lug around but my 2015 uptown was more than sufficient. I have to find out who needs backpacks for Christmas so I can spread the word about these high quality items.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite backpack of all time! I am a Stay-At-Home-Dad, that doesn't actually get to spend much time at home. I also do the bookkeeping for several clients and need to be able to carry my office around with me so that I can sit down to work when I have time between dropping off and picking up the kids at their various activities. This backpack is extremely well organized so that I can quickly find everything I need, from my bluetooth 10-key keypad, to my laptop, to my file folders. My very bulky noise-isolation headphones (so that I can concentrate at Starbucks) fit nicely in the large front pocket without affecting the main compartment so that I can keep my papers and files from getting mangled.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Good Backpack I really liked this backpack. It has a lot of pockets and I can fit everything I need to go to work and then some. The one major complaint I have is that it is not waterproof. It was not clear in the description of the backpack that it is not waterproof. During a really bad rain storm by the time I got into the office the whole backpack back was drenched and there were puddles inside the backpack. Luckily I did have my laptop with me that day. The other minor complaint is I got the Jet Black backpack but it looks dark gray. I really do like it but if the description was clearer in regards to the not being waterproof, I might not have gotten this backpack.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from love this backpack 99% I work in multiple buildings, so need to carry my mobile office with me, and this backpack is wonderful for keeping everything I haul organized! I don't use the TSA pocket for my laptop every day, a bit awkward to access, but very useful at the airport. The zippers are good solid strong zippers, but they don't always flow the way I'd like them to, so sometimes it takes two hands to close a pocket. That said, I'd recommend to anyone who wants the benefit of multiple pockets that are well thought out in size and shape, for how they make organizing lot of stuff easy, and for how they make maintaining that organization possible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I love this bag so much I use this bag to carry my laptop and books (I'm a professor), and it's amazing. My shoulder and neck problems instantly disappeared. The first time I tried it on, I worried that the straps were close together, as some reviews had mentioned that. However, once I got it loaded up with books, I no longer noticed them. I'm not sure if they sat differently when the backpack was weighed down, but it's really comfortable, and the straps don't bother me at all. I'm incredibly happy with this bag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Perfect Backpay for MacBook Pro Timbuk2 won me over with their classic messenger bag years ago. It was my main commuting bag for over seven years, because of it's thoughtful design, and it held up amazingly well. This Uptown backpack has the same build quality and intelligent design but is much more versatile than the messenger bag for traveling, especially with an expensive laptop. This has plenty of pockets of external batteries and cords/accessories. I also love the plain design, it draws much less attention while traveling abroad. This backpack simply couldn't be better.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good all-rounder The bottle opener is made of a softer metal than most bottle caps (feels like aluminum). This leads to it getting nicked and scratched whenever it's used to open a bottle. I feel like given enough use the bottle opener will become rounded off and useless. Other than that, best bag I've ever owned. Also, I'm a bit skeptical of the TSA friendly features. Most screenings I've been through require the laptop and bag to be in individual trays. I feel like I would have to explain to the TSA agent how the bag works, which may not be worth the hassle. I haven't taken a flight yet, but I surely will within the next few months so I'll see how it works.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Deceptively large backpack (in a good way) Bag looks average-size on the outside but I'm able to fit a ton in there (17" lap top, portable monitor, BJJ gi, in addition to small accessories). There are so many pockets/compartments I actually lose track of where I put things. I use it for everyday commutes but I can see myself taking this on a 1-2 night business trip. My biggest qualms about the backpack are that 1) the zippers seem poor in quality. they don't zip smoothly and I wouldn't be surprised if it's the first thing to malfunction on the backpack; 2) the laptop compartment is not easily accessible. For example trying to get your laptop out while on a plane would be an ORDEAL.
