Maxon BodyPaint 3D R19 offers a full 3D painting workflow for texture artists to create detailed textures for film, games, and other applications. BodyPaint 3D lets you create rich, highly accurate textures by allowing smooth painting of textures up to 64K and 32-bit.

Support for .PSD files allows you to paint textures in both BodyPaint and Adobe Photoshop. Specific views can be exported to Photoshop and reprojected back onto the 3D model in BodyPaint 3D. You can even load your favorite Photoshop brushes into BodyPaint. BodyPaint also connects well with 3ds Max, Maya, Softimage, and Lightwave. Other applications can exchange files with BodyPaint 3D using one of the numerous available file formats (e.g. OBJ, FBX, or COLLADA).

BodyPaint also provides an advanced interface that lets you control how pressure, tilt, direction, rotation and barrel roll affect any brush attribute.

The application is compatible with Mac and Windows systems.

New Features in BodyPaint 3D R19

OpenGL
BodyPaint 3D now uses OpenGL, so you'll immediately see a fantastic preview when painting color, reflectance, alpha, bump or normals, and even displacement. When working in a physically based shading workflow, you can now paint on every reflectance channel with a full preview that utilizes R19's Screen Space Reflections. Projection painting is fully multi-threaded and for faster translation of brush strokes onto your model.
UV Editing Improvements
Efforts to improve C4D's UV Editing toolset are underway, and you can enjoy the first fruits of this work in Release 19. Create selections more efficiently with options to convert point and polygon selections to the related UV points and polygons. You can now grow and shrink UV point selections, and Coordinate Manager support makes it easy to move and align selected UV elements.

Maxon BodyPaint 3D specs

System Requirements macOS 10.11.6 or 10.12.4+ with 64-bit CPU running on Intel-based Mac

Special Notes from Maxon

BodyPaint on Windows 10:
There are no known BodyPaint issues that are Windows 10-specific but your user experience might differ, depending on your hardware. A closed field test showed that some but not all GPU drivers or input device drivers work less reliably on the new operating system, especially when using 3rd-party plug-ins that rely on these drivers. This can change anytime if these drivers are updated, which means that no general guidelines exist regarding which graphics cards will be affected. For users of Intel HD2500 / HD4000 GPUs, the use of Windows 10 is not recommended because they will most likely not receive the necessary updates. Additionally, some versions of QuickTime could not be used with Windows 10. According to the Apple support website, there is no official support for Windows 10. However, positive feedback has been received with regard to using version 7.7.9 with Windows and BodyPaint.

CPUs:
Generally, BodyPaint supports all currently available Intel and AMD 64-bit CPUs with SSE3 support. However, the risk of compatibility issues for new CPUs (like AMD's latest Ryzen family of CPUs) that are released during a BodyPaint release cycle cannot be completely ruled out. But updates may be provided in the future for current releases to support these CPUs.

Graphics Cards:
Generally, BodyPaint supports all OpenGL 4.1-capable graphics cards. Nevertheless, a dedicated 3D graphics card with an AMD or NVIDIA chip set is recommended. High-performance graphics chips are currently already available in mid-range laptops. Ensure to always use the most current certified graphics card driver (no beta versions).

Regarding NVIDIA 3D Vision:
A quad buffered graphics card is required to use NVIDIA's 3D Vision Shutter glasses for viewing the stereoscopic display in BodyPaint.
