Lenovo Legion Y920 overview

  • 1Description

The 17.3" Legion Y920 Notebook from Lenovo is a gaming-focused system built for users who're looking for the performance and aesthetics to match. It's powered by a 2.9 GHz Intel Core i7-7820HK quad-core processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5 VRAM. Thanks to its dedicated graphics card, you'll be able to enable additional graphical options and crank up your in-game settings to enjoy games at their best. Moreover, the Legion Y920 is built with a 17.3" 1920 x 1080 G-Sync IPS panel, which provides you with game-enhancing features as well as wide viewing angles and vivid colors.

For storage, it's equipped with a 512GB PCIe SSD and a 1TB HDD. Using a PCIe-based SSD, you'll waste less time waiting for things to load and be able to boot and access files within seconds. If you need more storage space, it has plenty of USB ports as well as a 6-in-1 media card reader for external storage devices. Other integrated features include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, a Gigabit LAN jack, Bluetooth 4.1, a mechanical backlit keyboard, HDMI, DisplayPort, and Thunderbolt connectivity, a webcam, and a mic/headphone combo jack. The operating system is Windows 10 Home (64-Bit).

NVIDIA GeForce 10-Series Graphics Card
NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 10-series graphics cards can deliver up to a 40% increase in performance over the previous generation. Not only are they powerful, they can deliver similar performance to their desktop counterparts with a slight performance difference. This changes mobile gaming, allowing you to max out your game's visuals settings so you can enjoy it at its best.
NVIDIA G-Sync Technology
NVIDIA G-Sync technology syncs the display's refresh rate with the graphics card's frame rate output to reduce stuttering, screen tearing, and input lag for a more responsive experience.
Mechanical Backlit Keyboard
The mechanical backlit keyboard on the Legion Y920 provides you with a tactile response and built-in lighting so you can have a comfortable typing experience, even in the dark.
Immersive Audio
The Legion Y920 is equipped with a subwoofer and JBL speakers, and with Dolby Home Theater, you'll be able to enjoy more life-like sounds.
Lenovo Nerve Center
Lenovo Nerve Center is a software that lets you monitor as well as overclock your CPU and GPU. You can also use it to create custom macro commands to assist you in games.

Windows 10 Home

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    Lenovo Legion Y920 reviews

    17.3" Legion Y920 Notebook is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Powerful and Amazing Build Quality I bought this after purchasing a Y720 to see the difference between the graphics cards and laptops. The first thing I noticed about the Y920 is the keyboard. Its a little loud but the feel and RGB lighting is amazing. I love mechanical keyboards and this one did not disspoint. The materials and metal makes the laptop sturdy and it feels like it will last for a long time. Performance as expected is phenomenal especially with the overclock switch. Overall a great gaming laptop and definately worthy of comparing to other GTX1070 laptops. Pros: Build Quality Keyboard Performance Processor Cons: A little too bulky/weight [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding gaming laptop! I am impressed by the quality and performance of Lenovo Y920. I use it as the desktop replacement primarily for video editing and gaming. Laptop handles 4K videos without issues. TURBO mode enables overclocking that boosts the CPU cores from 2.9 to 3.9 - 4.0GHz. Mechanical RGB keyboard looks cool and really convenient to use. Highly recommended!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Has everything I need and more! I bought this product about a month ago and I have not been let down by the performance as well as the aesthetics. My favorite part about this laptop is the fully customizable RGB mechanical keyboard. It has a nice tactile feel to it as well as reliable responsiveness. The speakers are booming with the JBL speakers and the Dolby Subwoofer. I leave the speakers at 20 and can hear the sound almost perfectly clear in another room about 15 feet away with the speakers faced away from where I am. I am also not scared to overclock the cpu and gpu because although the fans get pretty loud, you don't feel the heat that is generated at all through the keys or chassis. And what's better than having a GSync panel to go along with a full GTX 1070 in it! The screen can get really bright so bring it to your preference. You can get up to 4.5 hours of battery life if you turn off Bluetooth and keep the brightness relatively low, which is perfect when I'm using it for school work and can plug it in to run my games at max settings (Doom, Tom Clancy's: The Divsion, Overwatch, and League of Legends). Only changes I would make is have more models available with different screen refresh rates, screen resolution, and gpus in it. Other than that, I'm more than satisfied with my purchase.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Gaming Computer and Works for Work Too! We bought 2 Y-920 Legion laptops to replace two aging Lenovos we'ld had for five years. The cost was a lot but for what we got, we are glad we paid it. Having a 17-inch screen to game with is great, you have room for the addons and still see what's happening. The mechanical keyboard is well-made and you can tell when you push keys. The multi-color lights on the keyboard is great. Lenovo has given us one more fantastic feature: The Lenovo Nerve Center. Here's where the gaming magic happens. It gives you customization settings for the turbo settings, the fan for those times when you're pushing the CPU, and even a network priority setting. These features are off when you're working on the computer and only come up and on when you sign into a game. Both of us play World of Warcraft and the difference between the older Y-500 laptops and this one is amazing. Lag from our side has disappeared, the only time we get lag is when we push the Blizzard Entertainment servers. Two things that I would change, and they are really minor, are the Nerve Center change with the Network Priority and the touchpad. When in-game, if I need to pop out and hit the internet to get information on a quest, I have to remember to go into the Nerve Center and turn OFF the game priority and make the browser the priority, then remember to go back and turn it on again. Also, it took me awhile to find how to turn off the keypad and keep it off. I use a wireless mouse so the touchpad is only used if I have to take the computer somewhere. Instructions on how to turn it off would be a good thing to add to the "Quick Start" guide. But those are minor issues compared to all the great features of the Y-920. Rated 5 out of 5 by from Power and quality Bought Legion Y920 in December. Make present for yourself on holidays! Fast shipping. Big box Laptop is really powerful. Video rendering on my old laptop was about 8 hours for 2 hours continuously video. Now is couple hours rendering maximum! Gaming expirience. Its amazing! Can play lots of nowadays games on ultra high resolutions. Easy cooling. Little bit noise in EXTREME fan mode. You can control it. And yeah, it has 2 fans! I like the network priority software. Perfect for any online games. Big network priority for game process Keyboard is not so perfect. The only what I dont like. Sometimes have to make more efforts to press buttons. For example if you press the far button by the little finger. Customizable backlight for keyboard. This high level performance laptop is heavy, but this laptop is not for web browsing, right? Lenovo Legion Y920 can easy compete with Alienware (price) and MSI (material quality) I like my Y920 and I'm not disappointed by my choice P.s. best price I found on www3.lenovo.com
