Lenovo Flex 5 overview

  • 1Description

The 14" Flex 5 Multi-Touch 2-in-1 Notebook from Lenovo is a well-rounded system designed for everyday uses such as browsing the Internet, streaming movies and TV shows, creating and editing documents, and video chatting with friends. Thanks to its 2-in-1 design, you can easily flip it from laptop mode to tablet or tent mode to fit your current application. Powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Core i5-8250U dual-core processor and 8GB of DDR4 RAM, it can efficiently multitask and quickly access frequently used files and programs. When handling a heftier workload, the CPU can reach a core clock speed of 3.4 GHz thanks to Intel Turbo Boost technology.

Its 14" display features a 1920 x 1080 Full HD resolution and is built with an IPS (In-Plane Switching) panel, which offers vivid colors and wide viewing angles. It also supports touch input, so you can utilize touch gestures and commands within Windows 10 to enhance its accessibility and efficiency. Graphical processing is driven by integrated Intel UHD graphics, and it has an HDMI port that allows you to connect an additional display for enhanced multitasking or larger viewing.

For storing your music, photos, videos, and more, it's equipped with a 256GB PCIe solid-state drive. Should you need more room, you can connect external storage solutions using its multiple USB ports, as well as its 4-in-1 media card reader, which can also be used to quickly transfer files from mobile devices. Other integrated features include 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, a webcam, microphones, speakers, a fingerprint reader, and a 3.5mm mic and headphone combo jack. The operating system installed is Windows 10 Home.

General Features

Keep Moving
Rated to last up to seven hours of use, the Flex 5 can keep you company for almost the whole day. It also has an always-on USB 3.0 port that can be used to charge your mobile devices, even if the system is powered off.
Streamlined Security
The Flex 5 is equipped with a fingerprint reader, so you can securely log onto the system. It can also be used to make secure, one-touch purchases online with Windows Hello support.
Flexible 360° Hinge

Full HD IPS Display
An IPS (In-Plane Switching) display provides you with vivid colors and wide viewing angles so you can enjoy using this notebook at almost any angle. It also has slim side bezels to maximize your viewing experience.
Harman Audio
The Flex 5 notebook is equipped with Harman Audio speakers for louder, clearer sound without much distortion. It also features a sound leveler to ensure that your audio remains consistent across all programs.

Equipped with dual array noise-cancelling microphones and a 720p webcam, the Flex 5 can be used to video chat with your friends, family, and coworkers.

Windows 10

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    Lenovo Flex 5 reviews

    14" Flex 5 Multi-Touch 2-in-1 Notebook is rated 2.7 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great specs, faulty display The laptop has great specifications for its price, is lightweight, and has a solid keyboard and clickpad. Unlike competing lightweight laptops from Dell and ASUS, the Flex 5 1470 has an extra 2.5" drive bay for expanded storage, which is a huge plus. Unfortunately the quality of the display leaves much to be desired. In my first unit, there was a constant vertical line two pixels thick running down the side of the screen. I quickly exchanged it for another unit, which starts up fine but displays black flickering on the screen especially when the laptop screen is moved or at a certain angle. This ranges from mild flickering to most the screen being covered in black. This is not a display driver issue and is faulty hardware as updating drivers and firmware does not resolve the issue. Unfortunately Lenovo's lack of quality control or use of faulty screens, digitizers or ribbon cables means I cannot recommend this product despite its other strengths. It has cost me too much time with troubleshooting and exchanging units in the hope of getting one that works, so if my third unit suffers the same or similar display related issues, this will probably be the last Lenovo product I purchase. If not for the faulty display, I would have easily rated this laptop 4 or 5 stars.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Screen Going Blank I bought this laptop a month ago . After using it for 15-20 days the screen started flickering . It goes blank on it own and you have to shake the screen to make it normal . I move or touch the screen and it flickers . It is very disturbing and I am hating this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from awesome so far screen's gorgeous, size is perfect, screen's touch response is fantastic. Windows isn't my favorite OS, (pro is ok so I might upgrade). My husband is multitrack sound editing with it, no complaints from him so far.
