Intel NUC 7 MINI PC overview

  • 1Description

The Intel NUC 7 Enthusiast NUC7i7BNHXG Mini PC comes equipped with an Intel Core i7-7567U processor, 8GB of DDR4 memory, and 2TB HDD to run the preinstalled Windows 10 Home operating system. Intel has enhanced the access times of the 2TB hard drive with a 32GB Optane M.2 module that delivers SSD cache performance. Furthermore, Intel has designed this mini PC with a compact form factor so you can mount it behind a VESA-compatible monitor with an included mounting bracket, letting you maximize desktop space.

The Intel Core i7-7567U processor features two cores that operate at a stock speed of 3.5 GHz for handling everyday apps. For demanding software programs, each of the cores can run at speeds of up to 4.0 GHz. In addition to the speeds, the Intel Core i7-7567U processor is equipped with 4MB of cache memory and has a thermal design power of 28W.

Intel's NUC 7 Enthusiast utilizes an onboard Intel HD Graphics 650 chipset that delivers up to 4K visuals to your monitors utilizing a built-in HDMI 2.0 port as well as a Thunderbolt 3 port that offers daisy-chaining capabilities with up to six devices, including monitors, DAS storage systems, and external graphics cards. The Thunderbolt 3 connection transmits data at a rate of up to 40 Gb/s and utilizes a convenient USB Type-C design, letting you connect with a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 cable on the first try. To complete the multimedia experience, 7.1-channel surround sound is provided through the video connections and a combo headphone/microphone jack. Other notable connections include four USB 3.0 ports for a keyboard, mouse, printer, and external storage drive. For accessing networks, the NUC7i7BNHXG is equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet port and 802.11ac Wi-Fi. There's also Bluetooth 4.2 on board, so the system can wirelessly connect to speakers, mice, and other Bluetooth-enable devices.

On the exterior, the mini PC is outfitted a built-in microphone along with a multi-colored LED ring, so you can personalize it with a color you want. There's also an integrated card slot for reading and writing to microSDXC memory cards. In addition, Intel includes an external 65W wall-mountable power adapter for powering the compact system.

Windows 10 Home Features

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

Intel NUC 7 MINI PC reviews

NUC 7 Enthusiast NUC7i7BNHXG Mini PC is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Upgrading to new technology with an Intel NUC mini pc When I chose the Intel NUC 7 Enthusiast NUC7i7BNHXG Mini PC as my new upgrade, it had to replace my ancient and technologically outdated Quad core (with 2 internal drives) and could be able to be upgradable, as my now retired old faithful one, and still be affordable enough to buy. Before I decided on the Intel NUC 7 I did a complete analysis on my updated requirements and what computer could fullfill these. The question was a desktop or laptop. My last adventure was teaching in South Korea where I took my PC tower along with me in a separate suitcase. Excessive you may ask? Perhaps, but when problems occurred and hardware repairs/upgrades were needed, no problems. I'm off to Vietnam next year for a new teaching adventure, and with this little beauty (Intel Nuc 7 with Optane) I will be able to 'daisy chain' all devices with the minimal requirements of cords; I can do most of the hardware upgrade/ replacements myself with easy access with minimal tools. I chose to buy the Intel NUC 7 from B&H because it had the best price I could find at the time, but their customer service, I find, is the best I have yet experienced, plus I have to say DHL brought my parcel all the way to Australia in an extraordinary fast speed within only 3 days at a very low cost which made my new pc so affordable, since ESL teachers don't earn very much. When I unpacked my new tiny little pc on my desk and looked at my old one under the desk it certainly took a bit of getting used to. First of all, none of my old VGA cables fitted so I had to buy some appropriate ones. HDMI to HDMI and one HDMI to USB - C. In hindsight I should have bought these from B&H but I was rather clueless about connections since I was focussed on other essentials. Now came the exciting part, the connecting everything up; the 2 monitors, printer, wireless keyboard and wired mouse, turned it all on and went through the wizard to set up Windows 10. The speed of this little pc is lighting fast; it's probably the fastest pc I've ever owned. Further thoughts on this Intel NUC 7 Enthusiast NUC7i7BNHXG Mini PC is that although one can daisy chain other essentials to the device, usb port numbers are are limited, but some can be freed up with bluetooth and wifi which I have done with my printer (wifi) and a new bluetooth keypad with mouse rather than a wireless setup using a usb dongle. I found that B&H have the best prices and this affordability for me has allowed me to buy an 8TB Seagate harddive for backup and my library teaching resources/necessities.
