Bus powered, solid state, and about the size of a really beefy thumb drive. Ww only use it for editing with proxies, but no complaints thus far. Very handy, durable, and affordable.

Excellent piece for mobile backup. Fast and fits easily in my hand. As others have noted, the USB cable is short, but works. Fabulous capacity: 1 TB in such small space.

Solid State - The Only Way To

This is my second Solid State G-Drive (SSD). Why did I buy a second one? Because I lost the first one (yeah, I'm a knucklehead). But seriously, I totally love this drive. It's fast. It's really durable. I think you could use it as a hockey puck. Never once had any problem with my first one. The only thing I would add to it would be a homing feature :-) I had my first one for three years before I lost it. Prior to buying this G-Drive I had a "rugged" traditional drive. Like with a disk inside. If that thing was rugged, then I'm Santa Claus. I dropped it twice and on the second time it stopped working. $200 down the drain. I will never ever own anything but a solid-state drive again. I have no experience with other brands and can't say that G-Technology is the only company making good ones. But I can say that this is a great little drive.

question

what kind of read/write speeds can I expect using USB 3.0?
Asked by: James
USB 3.0 (also known as SuperSpeed USB) has a maximum bandwidth rate of 5 gbps (gigabits per second). That translates to 640 MBps (megabytes per second)—ten times faster than USB 2.0 (aka Hi-Speed USB).

Generally speaking, it is going to take about 10% of your space. You would get about 1.8TB. This is an estimate.
