Rokinon 35mm f/1.4 AF Overview

Blending a bright maximum aperture with a comfortable wide-angle focal length, the AF 35mm f/1.4 FE from Rokinon is a versatile prime lens for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras. Its general wide-angle field of view suits photographing a wide variety of subjects and the fast f/1.4 maximum aperture benefits working in low-light conditions and also enables working with shallow depth of field techniques. The lens's autofocus motor works in conjunction with Sony cameras' AF systems for quick and precise focusing performance, and manual focus override is also available for more refined control.

Fast wide-angle prime is designed for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, however can also be used with APS-C models where it provides a 52.5mm equivalent focal length.
Bright f/1.4 maximum aperture excels in low-light conditions and also affords increased control over depth of field for working with selective focus techniques.
Two aspherical elements and two high refractive index elements help control spherical aberrations and distortions for improved sharpness, resolution, and clarity.
An Ultra Multi-Coating has been applied to individual elements in order to reduce flare and ghosting for increased contrast and a neutral color balance.
The integrated autofocus motor works in conjunction with Sony cameras' focusing systems for quick, accurate, and precise AF control. Manual focus override is also available for refining your focus position.
Internal focusing design maintains the overall length of the lens during use and also prevents the filter ring and lens barrel from rotating during focusing to benefit working with circular polarizers and graduated ND filters.
Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a smooth and pleasing bokeh quality.
Aluminum-alloy housing is both lightweight and durable.

Lens locks up on a7iii

Tried to like this lens but the autofocus is loud and choppy, the colors have magenta tint to it.  The worse thing about this lens is that it locks up frequently on the a7iii while in AF-C mode.  I will try to return this lens and get the Zeiss.

Glad I went with it!

Im amazed at the quality especially for the price! I was going to go with the Samyang, but figured id try this one just incase. I have it on a Sony A7III, and the autofocus (especially continuous AF for video) is incredible. Very fast and clear focus for sure. As its a full-frame lens, its nice to be able to use it in APS-C mode for optical zoom which makes it very handy. Image and video quality, even with the crop, is very clear and the down-res wouldnt be noticeable in normal scenarios.  It feels pretty solid and has some weight to it. I had previously read people saying that the focus ring build felt cheap, but I personally like the way it feels. Overall pretty stoked on it!

AF stopped working

I lightly bumped a doorway with this lens and the AF stopped working and now my a7iii often doesn’t recognize that a lens is even connected. I should have spent this 500 toward a GM lens.

Almost as Good as Sony

Basically 90% of the Sony 35mm 1.4 for less than half the price. Sony has slightly better contrast wide open and much better bokeh all around. The bokeh on this lens is good, but compared to the Sony its a bit rough on a busy background. Sony 1.4 has some of the best bokeh ever for a 35mm lens, so its not too surprising that this lens cant keep up. Neither can Sigma.

please dont this brand...

question

Does it have latest firmware for the lens? The latest firmware supposes fixing focus speed
Asked by: Xiao Can Y.
Manufacturers do not indicate to B&H which firmware version is in their product and we unfortunately do not have the ability to ascertain the answer. Our stock moves rather quickly so it is more likely than not it has the latest firmware in it. Also please consider that new firmware could be introduced at anytime so even if we could tell you the version the product has, it might change even during the time it takes to ship from us to you. We recommend that once you have received your product, check with the manufacturers website to see if you are running the latest version. If not, you can at that time do an update.

How noisy is the autofocus?
Asked by: john c.
It's quieter than many of the Canon lenses I had, but it's not silent. If you're shooting quiet video, you will notice it.

question

Did anyone else have the camera freeze on them because of the lens while using face detection/flexible spot focus/AF-C? - A7RIII
Asked by: David O.
There have been no reports of that issue. You might try making sure the lens contacts are clean and try again. Otherwise, if you have had the lens less than 30 days, please contact the B&H Cusotemr Service Department. https://bhpho.to/2bxrYlG

question

Has anyone used this lens for video? How is the auto focus. We'll be using an a7riii.
Asked by: Corey P.
I've had pretty good success with autofocus on this lens. I compared this to the Sony 55 1.8 and didn't notice a big difference.
