Astell&Kern 2PEM150- CMGM01 overview

  • 1Description

Rip your favorite CDs directly to your player with the CD Ripper MKII from Astell&Kern. The ripper connects to an Astell&Kern player (available separately) via one of the included cables and starts ripping at the touch of a button once the ripping options are set up. The connected Astell&Kern music player will access Gracenote's servers and automatically add the corresponding music information and album cover to the ripped music files.

The CD Ripper uses a triangular damper support with a spring structure to manage vibrations resulting from CD rotation so you can enjoy error-free ripping. Ripping speed and WAV/FLAC file format can be selected via the settings menu.

Note: The CD Ripper MKII may not be properly recognized by the player when using a power supply adapter rated at less than 5V 2A.

    Astell&Kern 2PEM150- CMGM01 reviews

CD Ripper MKII for Astell&Kern Music Players is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Product Works as advertised. Easy to use and, even in normal mode, it is fairly quick. Outstanding sound quality. I use with the AK70.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Portable capable device, but a little slow A few notes about this particular unit I received. It included two USB-A to USB-C cables instead of one USB-A to USB-C (for newer AK players) and one micro-USB to micro-USB OTG cable (used for connecting the older AK players). A call to AK/iRiver and a few pics of a receipt and proof of purchase resolved the issue painlessly and I received the missing cable quickly. The unit does not come with a power adapter. You're expected to furnish your own common AC to USB 5V 2A charger (which is fairly common and cheap). It is nicely packaged with a warranty card, cables and the unit itself. The unit is sturdy, has a metal body, and is heavy with dampers and other vibration absorbent materials making it a far higher quality ripper than the the MKI. Note that there are two Micro-USB ports in the back, one for Power and the other for Data. They are not interchangeable. I didn't see the labels clearly and struggled with getting it working with the player (an SE100) initially since it seemed to fail to see the player when the USB Device button in the Settings menu was tapped. (You need to do this, as the Ripper is not automatically detected when plugged in). A nice bonus is the AK unit is charged while the ripper is being used, although I am disappointed that the screen remains on through the whole ripping process and even when completed. Ripping a CD at "fast" at FLAC takes about I'd guess about 10 minutes which is slow compared to ripping with a CD a computer. You can only rip to FLAC or WAV. It also has Error Correction and can use Gracenote ONLY. If your CD is not in the Gracenote DB, you're out of luck as it won't check alternate CD databases. I bought the unit so that I could rip CD while I was away from my computer and near my CDs. I would not recommend it as a general ripper and it only works on AK units. It rips to local storage and I have not tried ripping to an SD card (and I don't know if it's possible to at the moment). It's also a little pricey for what it is, but overall I'm satisfied. I'd recommend it for fans of AK products, but it's not an essential peripheral.
