The Reversible Lens Hood Kit for Sony E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS E-Mount Power Zoom Lens from Fotodiox is a tulip-design lens hood that blocks stray and extraneous light from entering the lens, preventing lens flare. It also protects the lens from accidental impact, which would cause damage.
The included mounting ring has threads of 40.5 and 52mm diameters. The Lens hood itself has 52mm threads and screws onto the mounting ring, which is then screwed onto the lens. The hood can be reversed on the mounting ring for storage. Because the hood mounts to the ring, the filter and lens cap stay in place without having to remove them. Additionally, you can use the original Sony lens cap or the lens cap included with kit.

pay attention to what you order! ;-)
I saw the title and thought "oh, great, a lens hood for my 16-50 mm. I didn't pay attention to the fact that it's massive (construction is very burly compared to other lens hoods, and since it's made to also fit 52 mm threads in addition to my 40.5 mm its diameter is larger than it needs to be); and it screws in with the filters, since the 16-50mm doesn't have separate attachment points for a "normal" hood. Finally realizing all of this, it now makes sense that Sony didn't provide a hood with the lens in the first place.

One issue
Good quality but I found one thing that is annoying, when I have it screwed in even barely tight on my a6300, it won't turn on with the message "Can't recognize lens".
You can unscrew it and it works as soon as you do. Not necessarily a thing on thier part but it's something to consider.

Nifty lens hood
Perfect solution for the lack of a lens hood for the Sony E PZ 16-50mm.
Brilliant idea to include a built in step up ring to the more common 52mm filter thread size, saved me having to but yet another CPL filter.
I have had not any issues with any� 'Lens not detected' errors with this lens hood on my A6300 with the hood in both the deployed position or reversed to stow against the lens barrel. When attaching the mount for� the hood I only tightened it until the hood started to rotate round the mount

This was not compatible with my camera
I live-chatted with a B&H expert before I purchased this to ensure it would work with my camera, which is a Sony a6000. I bought it, installed it on my camera, and packed my camera for a trip. It seemed to fit OK, but when I tried to use the camera, it wouldn't focus with this product on. I had to remove it entirely. If I can find the box it came in, I'll send it back.

Has issues working with this lens
Appears to be a well made product but causes a "cannot recognize lens" message constantly. Once removed my lens works fine.
