Manfrotto Befree Advanced Travel Aluminum Tri... Overview

Sporting a 19.8 lb load capacity at a weight of only 3.6 lb, this black Befree Advanced Travel Tripod from Manfrotto is a robust support option that can serve as a convenient travel companion for professional photographers and passionate hobbyists alike. It is made of aluminum alloy and reaches a maximum height of 59.1" with its column extended, folding down to 15.7" in length for simplified transport in its included carrying case.

Each leg of the Befree Advanced is composed of four sections, which can be adjusted and securely locked into place with the QPL lever locks found on all segments. A side-pull selector allows you to set up the tripod at three different angle configurations, enabling low angle shooting with the simple push of a button. Complementing the legs is an equally sturdy center ball head, which offers a dedicated knob for panoramic movement as well as a friction control knob for precise control over the tension during use. The final element is a quick release plate, which offers dual compatibility for RC2 and Arca-type compatible systems, except for the Manfrotto 804-3W and MH804-3W tripod heads.

An Easy Link attachment is available at the top portion of the leg section, and allows you to connect compatible accessories such as flashes or reflectors. This enables you to use the tripod as a support system and reduce the amount of gear you need to carry while travelling. Rubberized feet are used to avoid skidding and help keep the Befree Advanced stable in most types of terrain. Finally, an integrated hook found at the bottom can be used to add a weight and increase the stability of your tripod when shooting in more difficult conditions.

  • Weighs 3.6 lb, can hold up to 19.8 lb of gear

Brilliant travel tripod

I was sceptical of buying a travel tripod but having used big Manfrotto tripods for 40 years I trust the name. I was not disappointed. I'm currently travelling through Italy and this tripod has been amazing, it folds up super small for my medium sized backpack. The bullhead is brilliant, very easier to operate/adjust. If you leave the centre column down and don't use the thinnest legs it is rock solid. I'm using a Pentax K-70 on the tripod.

It's super stable, and because of that it's a bit heavy too. Works great for me cause I'm always lugging it in a bike bag. I wouldn't want to hike with it or walk a ton with it though.

Great buy

I was kept up to date with my order the entire time it was being shipped. The instructions are easy to follow and the tripod itself is great! Excited to use this for future shoots :)

Just an ok tripod. Far too shakey for its price.

I had high hopes for this tripod. Unfortunately, it fell short. Its design is ourtsdanding, its stability, not so much. Even with a Sonya7iii and Tamron 70-180 I experienced an uncomfortable amount of wobble and shake. Throw a small amont of wind in the mix and its game over. If the counterweight hook was directly in the bottom of the center colum, it would help alot. Back to the drawing board.

Love it!!

For a travel tripod it's okay. My two biggest issues with this is. The camera plate is NOT compatible with other manfrotto tripod heads. If I want to switch to another tripod, I need to change out the plate. The plate comes loose very easily. On other plates, there is a layer of cork to hold the plate from rotating or coming loose while in use. I give the tripod itself 4 stars, but for the head I give it 2 stars

Tripod is light and easy to pack, but the plate on that comes with it isn't the standard Manfrotto plate so you won't be able to switch between all tripods.

can the Wimberley 200-II Gimbol head be mounted on this tripod?
Asked by: William L.
The Befree has a standard 3/8-16 mounting thread, and I have used different heads on mine. Your Wimberley Gimbal head should have that same standard thread so I see no reason why it cannot be mounted on this tripod. The only downside is that this tripod comes with a 494 ball head which you will remove, and unless you have some other use for it, you might want to consider a travel tripod that comes without a head (B&H lists 54 of them).

I have a Nikon D750 with a 200-500mm lens, will this tripod support this?
Asked by: Daniel
Specifications say that it supports 17.6 lb. I have used mine with a large format rail camera that weighs over 10 lb, and it has handled that load very well. I normally use it with a medium format film camera too. I don't particularly like this ball head as it can sometimes be a bit squirrelly with a heavier camera.

This one is sold as a kit so you can't just purchase the legs. But if you wanted to replace the head with an alternative one at some point, you can easily remove the current head and put on another one.
