  • 1Description

The limited edition red ATH-M50x Monitor Headphones from Audio Technica are designed for use in critical studio mixing and tracking as well as for DJ monitoring applications. They feature 45mm Neodymium drivers with copper-clad aluminum voice coils that provide an extended frequency response from 15Hz to 28kHz. The headphones have a circumaural, around-the-ear design that provides sound isolation in loud environments. The ATH-M50x's ear cups can be swiveled 90-degrees, allowing for single-ear monitoring. The headphones have a detachable single-sided cable system, and a 3-meter coiled cable, a 3-meter straight cable, and a 1.2-meter straight cable are included. When not in use, the ATH-M50x can be folded down and stored in the included carry pouch.

    Audio-Technica ATH-M50X reviews

ATH-M50x Monitor Headphones (Limited Edition Red) is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 162.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great sound, very uncomfortable I bought these headphones for studio monitoring. When they arrived I immediately noticed the great sounds quality, crisp full spectrum sound (plus they come in red, which is dope). After a couple minutes of continuous wearing, my ears and the top of my head started to hurt. The headphones don't confirm well to the shape of your ears, and the earpiece and headband tend to dig into your head. They feel heavy, due to the pressure they put on your head. I still think they sound fantastic, but I can't wear them for longer than 5 minutes at a time without getting a headache. In my opinion, they make better DJ headphones than studio monitoring headphones. Maybe I just have a big head, I don't know.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sound is very neutral I have been using Sony headphones for my entire professional life (both on field and in studio in the context of film and video production) and I wanted to try something else. After some research on the internet I ended up ordering these. I have yet to test them extensively so I cannot comment about durability but they seem to be well made. They are confortable enough and isolate sound sufficiently for most field works. Sound is very neutral (although on the bassy edge) which is something you may or may not like. For professional use it is a plus but it may lack some character for a casual listener. The detachable and extra cables are definitely a plus.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Mixing and mastering headphones When i read for a review about these headphone,it is often written by an audiophile, or a gamer, and their comments aren't pretty helpful sometimes, not if you are a Musician, precisely a Music producer, but if you are a Musician,Music producer, or Home producer, and you need an accurate review about it... Well, maybe this could be helpful, these cans have an interesting frecuency response, to be honest i liked, if you need to hear a subbass, or a deep 808kick, these are going to be pretty useful, but i think the high frecuencies are a little bit excited, thus, aren't flat at all, but it not a problem. However, if you have on mind buy these, i'm sure it's gonna be a great choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent I use these headphones daily at work. I wear them for about 6 continual hours a day, and I can honestly say that they are not too uncomfortable. Yes, they fit tight, but that is how you get the most sound isolation. They are adjustable, though, and I'm sure the headphones need time to loosen up a little. These headphones do a pretty good job of accurately reproducing source material. Of course, there are more expensive alternatives that are hyper-accurate, but for the cost, these are quite good. You will hear things in these that you will not hear in other alternatives, like extreme low and high frequency anomalies (that you would normally not hear on inexpensive sets). They may even let you hear things you don't want to hear (like a bad mix), so be warned... Overall, I'm quite pleased with these for the cost, and in my application as a professional broadcast-audio engineer, they perform very well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Astounding Sound, Amazing Headphones The M50x's are very comfortable and the Removable Cords are a nice touch. The Headphones have a very clear and well balanced sound meaning that the Highs, Mids, and Lows are all clean and present, none overpowering others. The Sound is nice and roomy leading to a very fulfilling experience. One thing to keep in mind is that, while I use them both with My computer and an Ipod, Headphones like these will never reach their true potential on portable devices due to the Device's limitations, to truly experience these, you need a Computer or Audio Equipment.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Detailed good sound, no much soundstage The goods: The sound is very detailed and instruments sound very real, as a good Studio Monitor should be. Also, I am glad that the bass is more pronounced than I expected without being overwhelming. Its plastic but it seems well made and durable. All 3 cables provided make this a very practical headphone, I have the short cable for the computer and the cellphone, and the long cable for the receiver in the family room. I don't have use for the third cable tough. The bad: There is no so much soundstage. I hear this is a problem with most closed headphones, but I don't have other high quality headphones to compare. Pads get warm sometimes.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Not quite as good as I expected I bought these headphones instead of the Klipsch status after hearing excellent reviews. After doing so I realize that, while they sound great for the price and my goodness are they comfortable, they don't quite have the treble clarity of most Klipsch products. They are better for mixing/recording thanks to that near flat frequency response, and offer a better midtone response. They also have very good noise isolation on both sides (I don't hear ambient noise, and more importantly, there is no noise leak). I don't necessarily regret the discission, but I do question it. For most people I would recommend still them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect Mix of Affordability, Audio Quality, and Portability After reading many reviews, the M50x was my choice over the normal M50 and its younger siblings. I am no audiophile but these headphones give a perfect amount of bass without being muddy or overwhelming. Mids and highs are quite clear, and overall is a great deal for the performance and features it gives at this price point. Removable cable was what made me choose the M50x over the regular M50, but the proprietary connector to the headset is kind of iffy if you were looking into replacements or custom cables. Thankfully, it has a latching mechanism to keep it from pulling the cord out should it get tangled and hooked onto something. I wear glasses and it gives me slight pain after a few hours of use. Replacing the earpads soon with Brainwavz HM5 to alleviate this issue. Portability is great with the detachable cable and collapsible cups. Other than the earpads and proprietary cable connector, it performs perfectly for my needs.
