Sennheiser HD 660 S Reviews

upgrade from my Sony MDR-7506

Nice upgrade from my Sony workhorse cans... sharper on the highs & throughout all frequencies. I'll keep my trusty 7506 in my field recording bag & for good confidence monitoring, and use the HD660 for final mix-down in post.

The best hd600 series headphone

I’ve had the old hd600, hd650, hd6xx, and the 58x. These are hands down the best out of all of them. In their stock form, the 660s have the best sound stage and the most directional detail out of any hd600 series headphone. The price is a bit more than the others but I feel the price increase is warranted. Put these on tubes and throw on lofi and just let’s it take you.

Great sound

Really like these cans - the sound is great. I use them while recording various tracks. The only reason I did not give 5 stars is because they kinda squeeze my head and I have to take them off after a while. Unless there is a way to adjust the hugging pressure - but I have not figured that out.

amazing details

I was recording and mixing with another brand that costs way less. B&H tempted me with this because the cookies saw that I was looking into it. I'm glad I took the bait. They are crystal clear with amazing details. A word about B&H - there are all the usual suspects out there to buy from. I find B&H to be top notch. This is what separates B&H from the pack: payboo card (save sales tax), extremely FAST FREE shipping (I'm in CA and receive in 1-2 days), packed right (never had to return yet due to shipping damage), customer support has great knowledgeable people. B&H is now my default place to shop for pro gear.

Sennheiser Sound and Build Quality

By Sharon

The HD 660 S build quality and cable assortment are FIRST CLASS. Sound quality matches perfectly with my needs for reproducing the sharpness and tonal range faithfully. Just a pleasure to HEAR THEM WORK for hours as if they weren't there. The HD 660 S continues HD 6XX tradition which I have enjoyed and trust. Sennheiser's QUALITY is something my experience has taught me that I CAN COUNT ON and expect. This conclusion is not so for other brand headphones. I have also used Hifiman's Sundara since March 2019 and I am OK with the sound, but the LACK OF BUILD QUALITY has demanded using GORILLA SUPER GLUE to keep together the cracking plastic on the headband, then wrapped with tape to give it the strength that was NOT BUILT IN. The unit's extra short cables (a pain) also needed glue at the ends that go into headphone cups for the lack of build quality. Sony's audiophile line delivers in style but NOT SOUND for my book.

Would the 660s be a good choice to use with my Yamaha P515 keyboard? Or would the 600 or 650 be better?
Asked by: Lorraine
Regardless of the model, you will need to use a separate headphone amplifier with the Sennheiser HD 660 S Open-Back Dynamic Headphones, the HD 600 Circumaural Headphones, or the HD 650 Stereo Reference Headphones because the headphone output on the Yamaha P-515 88-Key Portable Digital Piano is designed for use with headphones that have a lower impedance rating of 150 ohms and cannot provide enough gain for adequate listening volume for any these Sennheiser models. The HD 660 S have the lowest impedance level of the three models and are designed for a more natural response with portable audio devices. The HD 600 provide an uncolored and spatially accurate sound which is great for a recording engineer. The HD 650 are designed for high output mobile devices and hi-fi gear. Both the HD 600 and 650 are rated at 300 ohms.
