MSI GP72X Leopard overview

  • 1Description

Powered by an Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti graphics card, the 17.3" GP72MX Leopard Pro Notebook from MSI provides you with efficient multitasking, quick access to files and programs, and high-quality gaming visuals. Each of the four cores in the Intel Core i7-7700HQ processor operates between 2.8 and 3.8 GHz speeds, utilizing Intel Turbo Boost technology. When compared to the previous version of the Leopard Pro GP72 series, this model comes with a 3ms panel and a USB 3.1 Type-C port with 10 Gb/s speeds.

MSI has outfitted the GP72MX Leopard Pro with a 17.3" display that features a 120 Hz panel, which allows for smoother animations, making it suitable for watching sports or playing fast-paced first-person shooter games. The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050Ti graphics card with 4GB of GDDR5 memory delivers a 1920 x 1080 resolution to the 17.3" display and can offer higher resolutions by connecting a compatible monitor to the notebook's mini DisplayPort and HDMI ports. To complete the multimedia experience, four speakers are on board and powered with Nahimic 2 virtual surround sound technology.

In addition to the 256GB M.2 NVMe SSD, the GP72MX Leopard Pro has a 1TB 7200 rpm hard drive, which grants you ample space for storing videos, photos, and more. Aside from storage, the notebook sports one USB 2.0 port as well as two USB 3.0 ports to access printers, thumb drives, and other external peripherals. Other integrated features include a pair of audio jacks, SDXC media card reader, 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, Gigabit Ethernet port, and 1080p webcam. The installed operating system is Windows 10 Home (64-Bit).

SteelSeries Keyboard
Game wherever you want, even in dimly lit environments with the RGB backlit SteelSeries keyboard. It ensures accurate inputs and a solid feedback so you have a more responsive typing or gaming experience.
120 Hz Display
The ultra-fast 120 Hz refresh rate display with a 3ms response time reduces screen tearing, jitters, and lets you react instantly to your game. The display also provides wide-viewing angles, so spectators can view your skills.
Cooler Boost 4
Featuring a total of six heat pipes split among the GPU and CPU, this system offers improved cooling for maximum performance during extended gaming sessions.
NVMe SSD
The 256GB SSD transfers data utilizing NVMe technology that is four times faster than SATA interfaces.
Nahimic 2
Nahimic 2 audio software offers high definition sound technology that provides 3D virtual surround sound. With it, you'll be able to easily locate enemies based on their steps and actions. Combine it with the visual Sound Tracker to see where the noise is coming from.
MSI Dragon Center
MSI Dragon Center is a downloadable software that gives you full control of your system and lets you monitor your hardware with 6 functions and 5 performance profiles.

Windows 10

Start Menu
After its hiatus in Windows 8, the Start Menu has returned. Utilizing a combination of the traditional menu system and Windows 8's Live Tiles, the improved Start Menu gives you more information at a glance, showing notification information alongside your applications and other pinned items.
Cortana
Microsoft's digital personal assistant, Cortana, can answer your questions with information gleaned from both your device and the Internet at large. You can type or even talk with her, if your system has a microphone. Using her Notebook, Cortana keeps track of your needs and wants, and she learns over time to improve her information-gathering skills.
Microsoft Edge
After nearly 20 years, Microsoft has finally replaced its Internet Explorer web browser. With Microsoft Edge, users can write directly on web pages and share notes with friends and colleagues. It also improves the online reading experience by adding a distraction-free mode and read-it-later functionality. Edge also has built-in Cortana integration; you can have her help you find a restaurant, make a reservation, and pull up directions without leaving your browser.
Windows Store
For Windows 10, Microsoft has unified the Windows Store. Now, apps for PCs, tablets, and phones will all be accessible from one place. And with support for Universal Apps, one version of an app can work across all your compatible devices automatically.
Windows Continuum
Windows 10 was designed for a variety of screen sizes and input styles, and with its Continuum feature, it automatically adapts to fit your needs. A Windows 10 tablet on its own requires a touch-centric approach, but attaching a mouse and keyboard will shift everything to a more traditional interface. You can even attach an external monitor to your Windows 10 phone for a near-desktop experience. But it's not just the operating system; Windows Universal Apps take advantage of Continuum as well.
Xbox on Windows 10
Gaming is a big focus of Windows 10. Xbox integration allows for PC players to match up against Xbox One players on supported games, and if you have an Xbox One, you can even stream compatible titles to your PC. Native support for recording with the new Game DVR feature makes it easy to capture and share your gameplay. The new DirectX12 takes better advantage of multi-core processors, giving games a performance boost, even on older hardware. Windows 10 also features native support for virtual reality headsets, such as the Oculus Rift.

    MSI GP72X Leopard reviews

17.3" GP72MX Leopard Pro Notebook is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good customer service This is my second MSI laptop. My previous GE620 has been flawless for about 6 years now, but the technology was getting a bit old, so I looked for a newer MSI. I received the laptop about two days before a snowstorm. I thought that would be a good opportunity to use it to work from home. But between setting things up, installing windows updates, etc., something went wrong. Unfortunately, I hadn't backed up the system restore before doing this (snowed in and didn't have a thumb drive handy), and couldn't get back to system settings. Tried a restore and it failed halfway through! Uh-oh... Called MSI on a Friday. They told me there was a problem with one of the Windows 10 updates that corrupted their ondisk restore. They offered to send me a thumb drive with the original configuration on it. Sent it from CA and it arrived here on the east coast by Monday! Got the system restored and is running fine. Kudos to good customer service. Hadn't had a lot of time to use the laptop yet, but from previous experience I expect it to be solid. Display is crisp, hardware is as described. Only possible drawback is some of the bloatware on the system (be sure to create restore points before removing stuff).
