FiiO F9 Series overview

  • 1Description

The red FiiO F9 are a pair of high-resolution in-ear monitors that utilize a hybrid driver design with a single 9.2mm dynamic driver and two balanced-armature drivers, which combine to provide a frequency response of 15 Hz to 40 kHz. The F9 employ MMCX connectors and feature two interchangeable cables. The 3.5mm single-ended cable has in-line controls for playing/pausing songs, switching tracks, and volume adjustment, and there is an integrated high-quality microphone. The balanced 2.5mm cable is made from silver-plated copper wire for a balanced sound signature and a high level of detail with broad channel separation. The F9 ship with a waterproof carrying case and six pairs of ear tips.

Triple Drivers for Rich Sound
  • The F9 utilize a hybrid design in which each channel is composed of one dynamic and two balanced-armature (BA) drivers. The 9.2mm dynamic driver is specifically tuned to produce prolific lows, while the two BA drivers precisely portray extended upper-mids and highs
Interchangeable Cables
  • The F9 also feature standard MMCX connectors for their interchangeable 2.5mm and 3.5mm cables
    • The 2.5mm balanced cable is made of silver-plated copper wire, which ensures a balanced sound signature and a high level of detail retrieval. Due to its balanced nature, the left and right channel wires are separated so there is significantly greater channel separation, leading to a richer, more detailed musical experience
    • The 3.5mm single-ended cable comes with a full set of in-line controls capable of playing/pausing songs, switching tracks, volume adjustment, and even taking/making calls with its high-quality microphone. The F9 in-ear monitors are well suited to enhance your experience with your portable audio player or cell phone
Organic Strength
  • The ripple-like lines of the F9 not only give a unique touch, but also serve to ensure structural strength and maximize the amount of space internally for a more optimized design overall. Moreover, the inside layer of the F9's shell is specially lined with plastic to both better secure the drivers and eliminate internal resonances
PEK Polymer Nanocomposite Driver for Heightened Detail
  • The F9 utilize a dynamic driver made of polyether ketone (PEK) polymer nanocomposite, which is not only known for being tough, but also light. The PEK diaphragm offers solid sound reproduction with less sound loss and lower distortion when compared to other material, such as beryllium alloy or titanium alloy
Scientifically Tuned for Maximum Performance
  • All three drivers work in harmony to produce a cohesive sound that reproduces every part of the frequency spectrum from 15 Hz to 40 kHz
  • The F9 have been certified by the Japan Audio Society to be "Hi-Res Audio" capable for a life-like listening experience

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Killer Deal Curiosity got the better of me, when during one of my visits at the B&H store, I spotted a fairly large stock of these attractively packaged IEMs by FiiO. The last of anything I needed from the store that day, was another pair portable audio gear, but once I had one of them in my hands, at the site of the specs and price, I couldn't resist the temptation to bring one home. When opened, and the contents of the package revealed themselves, I was already satisfied with the purchase. The supplied accessories alone worth the price: a high quality braided MMCX cable with 2.5 mm TRRS plug, and a 3.5 mm single ended MMCX cable with remote, enclosed in a Pelican style hard case which is fairly large. The ear pieces are seated and well protected within a rubber- foam protector, one has to make some real effort to excavate them without damaging them. Beneath the earpieces are another small box, sporting two sets of ear tips, three pairs of each with sizes of small, medium and large. One of the silicon sets are lined red, reportedly offering the most balanced sound, I never tried the blacks yet. Ambient sound isolation is exceptional, while fit and comfort is first class. Regarding sound performance; my audio sources are: Onkyo Rubato DP-S1, and the much larger DP-X1A. Coming from a pair of Sennheiser IE80, and my most favorite, Logitech UE900s, the FiiO F9 sounded a bit veiled and slightly artificial right out of the box, but given the nature of dynamic drivers, they require several hours of burn-in, before they sound their best. This triple driver based IEM relies on a pair dynamic driver to produce the low end spectrum of the sound, thus significantly more time will be needed to spent with them, before I can fairly criticize the imperfections noted during initial listening. I can't say I heard anything to perform near as well in this price point, let alone better. I am very impressed by the artfully balanced sound signature, the audio spectrum reproduced is well extended, with very impressive details and resolution. I would stop short recommending this gear for bassheads, to my delight the bass performance is great yet definitely not overpowering, but a bit sloppy and less refined, compared to the quad driver BA based UE900s, but far more than acceptable, in fact, at this price I never heard anything to offer both, bass strength and great details. Most budget IEMs would either be lacking, or produce sloppy muddy overpowering low end. The treble could be a bit more extended, but again, when the price factor is calculated in the mix, there's nothing to complain about. I'm also loving the sound stage, the vented shells allow for an expanded soundstage far above anything I ever heard below $300 price tag, let alone sub $100! No matter how hard I try, I cannot find a single reason to comment against this gem, I would say this pair is a must have for any serious audio buffs, who are into portable sound. Audiophiles on a tight budget should definitely make a first stop here.
