Designed for versatility, the FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS Lens from Sony is a wide-angle to short-telephoto zoom designed to be an ideal one-lens solution for everyday shooting. The flexible focal length range pairs with a bright constant maximum aperture, impressive optics, and intuitive handling to make it a suitable option for walk-around shooting, street subjects, travel, and event photography.

G Lens Series

  • Four aspherical elements are featured in the optical design, including two Advanced Aspherical elements, and noticeably reduce spherical aberrations and distortion throughout the zoom range for improved sharpness and clarity.
  • Three extra-low dispersion elements are also used to minimize color fringing and chromatic aberrations for greater color accuracy.
  • A Nano AR Coating has been applied to reduce surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for increased contrast and color rendering in strong lighting conditions.

Image Stabilization, AF, and Handling

  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization helps to minimize the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld with slower shutter speeds.

Just a great everyday mid photo lense

I am somewhat new to more advanced photography skills but have been an avid photographer since the early 2000's, right of high school. This lens can take you from amazing food photography to wildlife then over to landscape with no issues at all. Absolutely love this lens and is my true all-around lens for traveling and messing around at home or on the road!

Four years on, still the best all-purpose zoom

I have used this lens for over four years and taken about 30,000 images with it. It is very sharp across the range, the color rendition is great, and the autofocus always is on target. It is sturdy (I tested this in the field), yet not very heavy. It may not be the very best lens at anything, but very good at most things. This still is the best and most versatile all-purpose zoom for Sony FE. This is my favorite travel lens. It has been on four continents. The focal range is perfect for travel, landscape, and documentary photography, but also for family photos and for general photography. I sometimes travel with only this lens because often it is hard to change lenses on the go, and because this lens always gets the job done. The fact that this is only and f/4 lens has never been an issue for me. I have taken many hand-held night shots with this lens at ISO 6400 at 1/15 of a second. This lens has image-stabilization (in contrast to its main competitors), and it works great in tandem with the in-body stabilization of my A7 III. You even can shoot portraits with this lens in a pinch; at 105mm, you get enough compression for a decent bokeh.

I just took it out the box just under two weeks ago and I love! It's been fun and I've enjoyed the results. I'm looking forward to playing with it more on day trips.

Wow! I love this lens. After tolerating the kit lens for 9 months on my new a6400, I splurged on the Sony 24-105mm G f/4. Prior to this I had gotten a couple of wide prime lens. Those have been fun but I always felt limited when in daily use. I now know the 24-105mm G purchase was really an essential purchase because it covers so much so well. Quick autofocus with 0 hunting! Nice bokeh especially with macro shots! Landscape to portraits! For an f/4, it is super in low light. I may never remove it. With my shoulder sling I carry it around all day with no fatigue. If your thinking of ditching the kit lens, do it and get the 24-105mm G. IMHO, it's a great all purpose lens.

I have previously posted, now that I have had an opportunity to use this lens on a Sony A7II and A7RII for a year or so at least now, not to be reduntent, it's a super walk around lens, I have so far enjoyed this lens so much. I use it 50 / 50 manual and auto, so many wonderful features. I have been asked a number of times, what is that lens you are using on that camera. I can honestly say that no one would ever be disappointed. I am an old timer photo hobby guy. 50 years or so. I hope this may be of assistance encouragement an support. Keep in mind the wonderful service from B & H. Ron K Vancouver

I'm a 30 years pro and I've owned many many systems. Like many of you I enjoy the look of primes and choose them for available light/shallow dof lifestyle looks. I picked up this lens after spending a ton on glass as a travel/backup. Guess what? I use it way way more than I thought I would. When shooting Ecommerce fashion, product, industrial video, and other commercial jobs this lens is phenomenal. Yes, 24-70 2.8 is the gold standard for this type of work but the added range is really helpful. I don't miss f2.8 at all. In fact, at f4 I get more keepers due to the added dof. The sharpness argument is marketing nonsense perpetuated by pixel peeping poseurs. This lens is all u need. No, get the 35mm GM too. It's THE lens for available light narrative work. Still, this lens will have you covered for most paying gigs. Am I tempted to pick up the new 24-70 mk2? Yep. Will I push the button? Not sure. It would be a vanity buy as the 24-105 is serving me very well and has paid its way literally 100x last year alone.

Yes, the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS is compatible with the Sony NEX-7, but will not be able to reach its full potential due to the older firmware of your camera.

As far as we're aware, aperture changes during operation on the FX6 with the Sony G-series lenses, like this 24-105mm f/4 G OSS, are seamless and smooth.
