Polaroid Pop overview

  • 1Description

Capable of capturing 20MP images and full HD 1080p video, the white Pop Instant Print Digital Camera from Polaroid combines the fun of instant cameras with the advantages of a digital system. By marrying a CMOS sensor with ZINK Zero Ink Technology, the camera can produce an instant 3.5 x 4.25" physical print while allowing you to accurately frame your shot. A 3.97" touchscreen LCD found in the back is used for previewing and navigation, and images are saved to a user-supplied microSD card as big as 256GB so you can view, transfer, and edit the digital files at any time.

The Pop can connect to mobile devices thanks to a dual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip, and users can download an app for adding elements such as filters, borders, digital stickers and text to their images. After editing, you can choose to save or print your pictures. To help keep photos sharp even in low light situations, an image stabilization system is used, and a dual LED flash is also available. Finally, a built-in speaker and microphone can be used for recording and playback of audio together with video.

    Polaroid Pop reviews

Pop Instant Print Digital Camera (White) is rated 2.0 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not worth the $$ This camera was touted as being wifi and blutooth compatible. Also, promoted that images could be edited in camera before printing. Pairs poorly and unpredictably with my iPhone and I am not a novice at this using this function. Very irritating, very quickly. Also, the editing function is less than basic and virtually useless. One good point is that images can be stored on a micro sd card in jpg format which is more than other instant cameras can do and can be transferred to computer. But all other regular cameras can do that. Picture quality is, well, ok, and it takes forever for it to print a little print. After pressing the print button I found myself holding the camera up to my ear and/or looking down into the slot where the print should come out wondering if it would ever show up. It has no adequate selfie function. In all, the camera has limited use even for just goofing around. Also, if you do decide to buy the camera, do not buy the tabletop tripod that B&H suggests. The camera has no tripod socket.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Honestly Disappointed So, I'll preface this review by saying that I might be spoiled. I have a Canon 70D and I print my photos on a Canon Pixma 10. Between the two of them, I feel like I come pretty close to flawlessness. I'll start with the positives. The concept is great. Having the ability to print a photo that you like immediately is really cool. It makes for an instant memento and you're probably more likely to do something with a printed photo than you would a digital photo that sits on your PC indefinitely. The fact that this device hybridizes the concept of a polaroid and a digital camera is awesome. You can take all the photos you want and you can pick and choose what to commit to film. Not only that, you have all kinds of little icons and frames that you can add to the photos to create whimsy. Loading the film is simple and the pictures are larger than a lot of the other similar polaroids on the market. The paper is somehow heat reactive, so there's no ink or anything! Magical! This camera also has WiFi so you can send things to your network. What's not to love? Unfortunately, there are several issues that I feel really count against it. Firstly, the camera is heavier than I would expect. Yes, I understand that they have crammed both a camera and a printer into a single product, but part of the allure of something like this is the ability to take it anywhere and use it spontaneously. If it is too heavy to carry around, you've got to make a conscious decision to bring it with you and that's a huge negative. Secondly, I'm entirely unimpressed with the photo quality. I had a digital Olympus in 2003 which took photos on par with the prints I'm getting from this thing and this is supposed to be 20 Megapixels whereas the Olympus was like a 1.6. All of the prints that I've done look pixelated. I'd rate the pixelation with the flash on as irritating and with the flash off as hopeless. This household has about six digital cameras and six digital devices with embedded cameras, some are over 8 years old and all of them exhibit superior quality photos. That means that not only do you have a weight dilemma when stepping out the door, but you also have to make a conscious decision to take inferior photos when you take it. Thirdly, printing photos is slow. Normally, I wouldn't care, but the camera is essentially unusable while printing is going on, so there's no way to take snapshots and print as you go. Once you decide to print, you're committed. Time out. Don't let anything else happen because you're not getting a shot of it. Finally, based on the price I paid for the photo paper, each print works out to be about 75 cents. Clearly, that's not going to cause anyone to go broke, but it's enough that it makes printing a photo a choice. You ask yourself if it's WORTH printing the photo. Now, as I mentioned earlier, the heat based printing is magical as far as I'm concerned and you can't put a price on magic. However, I can put a price on a lackluster, pixelated print and, invariably, the answer to whether or not the print is worth it is a resounding "no".
