FreeVision VILTA overview

  • 1Description

The FreeVision VILTA Mobile is a 3-axis gimbal stabilizer for most smartphones, including larger-sized ones like the iPhone 8 Plus and the Note 8 without a case. The VILTA Mobile allows you to capture smooth, cinematic footage with your phone. It provides stable, controlled motion and also lets you focus on a subject, zoom in and zoom out, take photos, capture time-lapses, shoot panoramas, and much more. The VILTA Mobile is great for pushing in on a subject from various angles to get exotic close-ups, as done in music videos, while getting to the close-ups with steady movement. The VILTA Mobile works in combination with the FV Share iOS/Android app that's available as a free download.

The VILTA Mobile operates for 17 hours on the included battery, so runtime is not an issue. It offers four follow modes, which you can switch between with one of the buttons at your fingertips. Select the follow mode of your choice and then use the joystick to perform the motions you want. You can pan a full 360° as well as tilt and roll substantial distances. A long-press of the function button lets you focus. Long-press it while toggling the joystick left or right to adjust roll axis angle or exposure. Long-press it and toggle up or down to zoom in or zoom out. To ensure accuracy in all these operations, the VILTA Mobile uses an auto-detect feature to properly balance your phone before you begin.

The iOS/Android app enhances your phone's shooting abilities with additional features/modes. For example, Slow Motion Mode enables you to capture video in a way that will allow you to play it back in slow motion without losing its quality. Long Exposure Mode allows you to capture vivid photos in dark environments, whereas many details normally get lost in the dark. Panorama Mode lets you shoot immersive panoramas in four different layouts: 180°, 330°, 3 x 3, and 3 x 5. There are also two time-lapse modes. Both Motion Time-Lapse Auto Mode and Manual Mode allow you to capture time-lapse photography, but one gives you more creative freedom while the other more precision. In addition to this, there are many scene filters to choose from to give your photos and videos an added level of character.

The VILTA Mobile has a compact design and a durable and comfortable build consisting of corrosion-resistant polycarbonate materials and rubber coating. It's also capable of being used in high temperatures without shutting down or slowing down. On the bottom, the gimbal offers a 1/4"-20 threaded mounting hole for mounting on tripods, monopods, and other support gear, useful for extended time-lapse capture and other operations. This gimbal also features an intelligent charging system that ensures overcurrent protection, short-circuit protection, low-battery protection, trickle charging, and accurate power management. Moreover, if the battery runs out and you've still got some shooting to do, the VILTA Mobile offers full operation during charging.

    FreeVision VILTA reviews

VILTA Mobile is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Superuser: best gimbal I have used PROS: Pro-build that feels solid and durable Ergonomic and comfortable handle Long lasting battery Easy to calibrate balance on the fly Good light and solid carrying case Cons: App could use improvement (like practically all gimbal apps IMHO) Useless mystery switch on handle left over from a previous product Better if it had a screw-tighten clamp was instead a spring clamp I have tried a lot of gimbals, and while I am still looking for the perfect gimbal, this one is the best I have found. I take a lot of action footage around the world for shoots I am on, so I really put my gimbals through a lot of hard work, which is another reason I prefer lighter gimbals with good ergonomics. Previous to this I used the DJI Osmo (original - not the newer plastic one) for a year, and it worked quite well. It was a good solid build, wasn't plasticy, but it was sturdy. I didn't like the DJI app so I simply used my iPhone X native video app. But after a while I kept getting frustrated with how the Osmo would often lose its calibrated balance, and to recalibrate on the fly was too much trouble. This was especially frustrating when you want to quickly capture something and you are stuck with a screen that is showing to be off balance by 10+ degrees. It is annoying constantly having to fix an imbalanced shot in post production. I then bought and tried the expensive Freefly Movi Cinema Robot, which has a great pro-build feel and the best app on the market, but it was waaaay too heavy and it is only a right-handed device. Those two things became problematic very quickly, despite how much I liked it. So I studied up and went to showrooms and finally settled on this Freevision Vilta Mobile. I liked its pro-build -- it felt professional like the DJI Osmo, not cheap and plastic like the new DJI Osmo II or the popular Zhiyun models. The ergonomics are the best I have found -- pick up one and try for yourself and you will see what I am talking about. But most importantly for me, it allows you to manually fix any imbalance quickly and easily (by pressing a button and using the joystick to tilt in either direction). So far it has held up, and the battery life is much, much better than the DJI Osmo. I have gone all day with heavy use and it still has a charge, unlike when I had to have extra charged batteries on hand for the Osmo. I recommend this gimbal to anyone who asks. About me: I am a superuser in that I have filmed all over the world mostly in action shots that require a lot of movement and stabilization. In fact, often times I am running backwards with the gimbal, so build, weight and form factor are very very important. I have been filming with an iPhone X in HD (4K files are too big, and HD gets the job done). Since Apple has its OIS hard-built in and you can't turn it off (despite what everyone claims), I still have to do some stabilizing in post production. If you want to check my work, search for Peace Run Nepal 2018 to see a sample.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My first Gimble.. well worth it.. If you are looking for your first Gimble, this is the one... I knew it would improve the quality of my video... But I was blown away but just how much it improves it.. easy learning curve.. my phone it the ZTE Blade Z Max, and it's a big phone.. surprisingly, it balanced and its really 1,2,3 and go.. the FV app fully works on my phone, so I was doing the time lapse and slow mo, and oh yeah.. I did the inception spin on it.. the only learning curve is remembering which way to slide the joystick.. it feels good in your hand and great control... Made my videos smooth .. no ninja walking needed and my phone does not support EIS so the Gimble did all the work... Well done, well worth it.. even for a beginner.. because it makes you feel professional..

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great item but kills your battery The setup instructions were simple enough to understand. I am not too fond of how fast it kills the battery but it can be understandable seeing as how it requires the camera to be open at all times. What I do not like is how tight the phone grip is. I find it to be a struggle to put my phone in/remove it. I have had my digits caught in the mechanism multiple times and it does not feel pleasant. Overall, it is a great item and I would recommend it to anyone looking into a gimble.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from iPhone 8 Plus will not balance ! TheFreeVision VILTA Mobileis a 3-axis gimbal stabilizer for most smartphones, including the iPhone 8 Plus and the Note 8 without a case. It turned out not to be true in that I could not pre-power-on balance the iPhone 8 Plus on the device - not even close. Nice looking product. I tried an old iPhone 5 and it balanced. Please remove the false claim in your product description.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way Better Than My Previous Gimbal only thing I wish for is the Android software to be more up to date. It works well but some of the specialized features do not. Delivery was very timely from B&H too.
