Dracast LED500 Bi-Color Reviews

Fun while they last...

A great, lightweight solution at a price that proves they're essentially disposable equipment. They have always worked great for me, but eventually the cheap design just starts to fall apart, notably the gears and hinges for connecting to their (equally cheap) light stands. If you need a quick cheap fix for low-level interview lighting, and don't expect your gear to last more than a year or two, these are great. If you want a longer term, quality solution, look elsewhere.

pretty good for the price

1,5 year of every week usage. Studio and field interview for TV and documentary. I expect to use 2 this panels as portable and lightweight lights to shoot interview with 1 or 2 people in frame. It have enough power to shoot 1 person in frame not in front of window and not outdoor. You can even use piece of Frost filter. If I want to shoot 2 talking people, using wide or middle shot, it is not enough power to do this even indoor, because they become too far from the face. This panels is copy of TECPRO by Dedo, BUT! TECPRO has 2 diodes in every slot (3200 + 5600), but this panel has only 1 diode in slot and all diodes shining only at 4500K temperature. So this panel 2 more weaker than TECPRO. After 1 year of usage, velcro become totally unstitch and sometimes diode square falling down from power unit. And it is unable to hold it if you want to deform the square. They are not a lightweight. This panels using V-mount, but TECPRO using NP-f. V-mount more expensive and heavy. And it is practically unable to use the most known lightest and most portable stand for dedolights. My conclusion that you should understand, what for you need detachable power unit and light with velcro and deform option. If you plan to use it on stand like any other panel - use other panel because here you will not win in lightweight and in portability.

falls apart while using it

These panels are pretty much worthless. If you'd want light, your best bet would be to light them. They literally fall apart with mild use ... * * knobs are cheap and fall off all the time. * the power unit has several faults: loose parts inside, loose connectors, velcro that comes off, and one unit totally failing after light use ... *** bottom line: you get what you pay for. my advice: better look for something else.

I've seen other folk bad-mouth these lights but I love them. Good points: they're lightweight, they run on 120v & 240v, you can easily switch from daylight to tungsten. Bad points: they're a little flimsy and the power pack on the first one burnt out but I was able to replace it after some cajoling of the team at Drapac. I've used them all over Europe and the US.

is there an interconnect cable to run two lights off one controller?
Asked by: Scott
No, there is not. I contacted Dracast with your inquiry. They state that they do not offer spare flex panels or connecting pieces because in order to power two yoga flex lights, you would need a higher capacity power supply. They state that, for this reason, they offer the Dracast Yoga LED1000 Bi-Color Flexible Panel, B&H # DRYGFL1000B, as a separate product because it includes this higher capacity power supply.

I think so through Dracast directly. Dracast.com. But the Vmount battery plates are very convenient. Also, you can daisy chain two lights to one power unit

Any suggestions on a softbox that would work for these? The 14” size makes it tricky to find something that would work portably.
Asked by: Michael
There is no Softbox made specifically for the fixture. One way to soften it further, & mimic a softbox, is to shoot it through a Diffusion panel.

Hello, the marketing video for the model 500 shows you can connect a second panel using special clips. I have two model 500 panels and can indeed connect and both with one controller (two output connections), but I need the mounting clips shown in the video. I figured those would be included. Where can those be had?

question

What's the light output on the LED?
Asked by: Alberto
Yes. At three feet, it has 791 Lux. The daylight version, when available, will be a bit brighter than that. Based on other lines, it should be around 900 Lux. // Also, if there are any other technical or product related questions, feel free to contact us directly at any time at [email protected]
