This is my second Western Digital to die after light use. REPRO STEPS: - Back up iPhotos for the first time to a new WD disk - Try to use the disk again RESULT - Disk makes clicking sound of death and Disk Utility says the disk cannot be repaired

A MIGHTY MITE.

Small, compact and powerful. If you are using Mac, you'll have to reformat, but that's no big deal. So far it works perfectly and it arrived on time and in good shape as is usual with B&H.

I do photos and wanted a place to store my raw shots. It works well. I don't use the program that comes in it, just use it like a stick.

This HD held photos i'd been working on. Many were also on another hd, but not all, when the drive went into failure. i was able to download a bit of the 3.5T as it was dying (which came on suddenly), but most is lost. I sent it in to a data recovery specialist, but they were only able to get less than 1/4 of the material, so I opted not to spend the $$$ to get a fraction of my material, which they warned, may have also been corrupt. I'm still trying to figure out if there is a way to recover the drive's contents, months later. This drive had minimal use; this is unacceptable. Now I'm leary to use my other 2 WD HD's, and am not sure what to use for reliable photo storage.

A nice small portable hard drive. Price was great for 4TB and I just need the drive for simple backups before putting on a NAS. I've had good luck with WD drives in the past so here's hoping that this one will last as well.

Yes. It needs to be formatted using FAT32 or exFAT, and if you want to back up a full drive, the external drive should have at least the same capacity as the internal drive.

Hi! I don’t understand if the disk has USB 3.0 or 3.1/3.2. Are these compatible? Which would i need?
Asked by: Ani
As the other person said, this is a USB 3.0 drive but can also plug to computers with a USB 3.2 or USB 3.1 port. Generally USB drives are 'backwards compatible' (works with older USB versions) and 'forwards compatible' (works with newer versions), so almost any USB drive will work in almost any USB computer / laptop / TV etc - the difference is that if the device and the thing you're plugging it into are both higher versions you get faster and better performance. I have a bunch of these portable WD drives, and I find them great - I generally use them as my portable backup drive when travelling (I copy photos / videos onto them as I travel around, because I'm paranoid).
