The Arca-Swiss C1 Cube with Arca Classic Quick Release with GP (Geared Panning) is a three-axis panoramic head with an 88 lb load capacity, making it ideal for use with the heaviest cameras while maintaining a high degree of accuracy. The C1 Cube allows for finely calibrated geared panning adjustments. The two panoramic axes permit you to first center the Cube's controls to your position with the bottom axis and then readjust the camera to point straight ahead with the upper axis. The gears' rubberized knobs give pinpoint control even when wearing gloves and don't obstruct the head's movements. The Cube's bottom features a hinge allowing a 62° tilt so that most cameras can reach the 90° vertical position, while the top features two bubble levels and Arca-Swiss' Classic style with GP (Geared Panning) quick release clamp.

Arca-Swiss C1 Cube with Arca Classic QR Overview

Although universal, the Cube's main use is in architectural and studio work, where precise movements and adjustments are required. Its design is also suitable for macro photography, allowing for fewer focusing readjustments while creating images. It essentially places the camera inside a sphere, as if the axes met at a point upon the image plane itself, with the camera rotating around a stationary image plane. This engineering feat was achieved to minimize movements to the optical system's entrance pupil during composing, making for speedier fieldwork free of perpetual height and focus adjustments. The top of the Cube C1 has a geared panning platform with a range of 360° and a numbered scale for precise and repeatable results.

Compatible with Arca's Classic quick release system
Sophisticated engineering, machined from a single billet
Geared X-Y axes with adjustable gear tension and 28° of motion
Third 62° tilt-only axis underneath geared adjustments
Rubberized knobs easily manipulated in the cold and with gloves
Movements can allow camera's image plane to stay relatively stationary, easing macro work
Requires a quick release plate, not included
Designed in Switzerland, manufactured in France

Arca-Swiss C1 Cube with Arca Classic QR Reviews

Precise and well-built

I got geared pan version with classic clamp to use with my medium and large format cameras. The cube is really solid and allows precise adjustments. Perfect for architecture photography. I’d recommend getting quick-link tripod head (quick release head) to take off the cube and safely pack while traveling.

AMAZING!!!

Could not live without it. Even when you do not really need it, I love it. Recently did some long shutter work at a Country Fair and positioned tripod the best I could within a few seconds, then did final adjustment with the C1. Amazing!

why is this model more expensive? what's the difference with the other ones? Is there a geared panning version with the flip-lock system? Thanks!
Asked by: Sergio
This one is more expensive because it is designed more beefy to have a higher payload. The one with the flip-lick system is BH #ARC1CQ.

Is there a way to lock the index marker just above the top panning plate so that it won't move haphazardly during panning. It doesn't stay in one place on the panning plate and it doesn't necessarily move an equal amount to the camera clamp which resides just above it? Thanks.
Asked by: Russell
I dont know of anyway to lock the marker other than using tape.

What is the difference between 2.2lb and 2.4lb and what are the advantages and disadvantages?
Asked by: Tetsuya
The difference between the Arca-Swiss C1 Cube Geared Head with Arca Classic Quick Release with GP (Geared Panning) and the Arca-Swiss C1 Cube Geared Head with Arca Classic Quick Release is that the GP version allows for both manual movement and geared movement if you wish to for a very precise rotation. There are no disadvantages to using the GP version over the classic, however the classic version is also a great option if you do not need a micrometric rotation.

How to adapt it to my a bunch of RRS stuffs? May I have your suggestion? For example, RRS Nordal slides(MPR192 CLII), RRS pano clamps....
Asked by: TSE JEN
I too was trying to match my RRS to my new and old cameras and planning for multirow panoramas. I made a few mistakes but ended up telling Really Right Stuff by email what my camera and tripod is to match the baseplate -remembering that multirow panos are usually vertical. I am not sure you need the geared cube head for the panos but I love the head and so wanted everything to work together. My setup uses the RRS tripod leveling head as well.

You could use the following wrap on the Arca-Swiss C1 Cube Geared Head with Arca Classic Quick Release with GP (Geared Panning) to protect the head while attached to the tripod legs: https://bhpho.to/3UP524T

RRS plate has two safety screw on bottom. If I put RRS plate on C1 cube’s clamp, does the safety screws lose its original function? Is the bottom of RRS plated going to be scratched or clashed? I would like to purchase C1, but not sure if it could work with RRS rail/plate perfectly? If it cannot, can I swap out Arca Swiss clamp and install RRS clamp on C1 head easily?
Asked by: TSE JEN
Yes, you are able to use your RRS bracket with the C1 and it does not cause any damage to the bracket. However, you will lose partial functionality of the safety stop screws. Replacing the existing Arca Swiss clamp with a RRS clamp is possible. The retaining screws are covered with epoxy to prevent the user from modifying the head. I personally spoke with Arca Swiss and they will switch the clamp for a nominal fee, plus the price of the RRS clamp which they have in stock. I prefer the RRS clamp and will be switching mine. The C1 is a great head. Good luck!
