Godox TT685S reviews

TT685S Thinklite TTL Flash with X1T-S Trigger Kit for Sony Cameras is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Same Features/Lower Price I'm a Canon shooter than took the first step(s) in going mirrorless and purchased a Sony A7III. Of course now I need all the do-dad's for that body. Ordered the TT685S and when I opened the box it looked exactly like my two 600EX-RT's. Form and function are so close that in dim light you would have trouble telling them apart. Build quality is good. Haven't used the product past the initial testing stages but it appears to work as I anticipated. To quote another review I read when trying to decide to buy it the documentation is woeful so you'll largely need to figure most things out via on-the-job training.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst instructions on the planet. Before I write the actual review, let me state that I wrote software for 15 years for a living. It is actually easy to make an app execute when you push a button, so in my mind there is no excuse other than bad design for making a menu so difficult that it can barely be mastered as is the menu for the TT685s and the X1T-s trigger. Now the review. I carefully read the books for these items. Then I took the items in hand and tried to attach them and get them to work. For 2.5 hours. Nothing. Then, all of a sudden, the flash started to fire when I hit the camera release. Why didn't it work all that time? I don't know. But after reviewing all of the settings multiple times, suddenly success. It makes me very leery to depend on something when I can not figure it out. Here are some more menu glitches. To LOCK the tt685, press the mode for more than 5 seconds. This is useful, but never explained. Unlock the same way. Another issue. The manual states the zoom function only works when the "A" is highlighted along the zoom display. OK, so how do you change it again? Zero explanation. Here it is. If you are using the remote trigger, it defaults to M(anual). Put in on the camera at 90 degrees and press "Reset" hmm, where was that again. It is the two buttons labeled "RST". No explanation there either. But, if you point the flash up for bounce, it goes back to M and another reset is required. Of course, then you must reset all the settings. What a pain. I am going to keep this flash as it was cheap, and I have figured out most of the few things I need to make it work. But I would not buy it again, and do not recommend it. Unless you have many hours to play with it to discover all the functions that are not in the menu that you need to make work to actually take some shots.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works Well, sometimes does not go off I needed this flash on pretty quick notice, and was able to throw it on and take pictures on auto effectively. I am using it on a Sony A7Sii. I would say it works well 7/10 times. The other 3 times, it does not connect to the camera I assume. Compared to the price of the Sony Flashes, I would say this is worth the buy. If you are doing serious event photography, you may want to invest more for that 10/10 reliability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Flash and Trigger The flash is a very good value for the money. It does go through the AA but has great range and easy to use. The trigger has great range, easy to set up and set up is very fast.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great addition to Sony Camera I have four of these now - I bought this one as a backup as I have a full day of sports team shooting coming up. Coupled with the wireless flash trigger, this gives me a great off camera flash solution

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It Works A good value for money, i thought was a bit powerful but works great, now Im looking for a bigger one maybe a AD200 or AD360. The TT685 get the job done great, must be used with small soft-boxes.
