Linksys RE9000 overview

  • 1Description

Expand the reach of your 802.11ac Wi-Fi network with the RE9000 AC3000 Tri-Band Wireless Range Extender from Linksys. This wireless range extender supports the 802.11ac Wi-Fi network standard and operates a single 2.4 GHz frequency and dual 5 GHz frequencies with one of the 5 GHz frequencies designated to network backhaul. With one of the three frequencies dedicated to network backhaul, the other two are free to be used by Wi-Fi devices connected to the range extender.

In addition to tri-band support, this Linksys range extender also covers areas of up to 10,000 square feet, and with spot finder technology, you can be sure the RE9000 is placed in the right location for optimal network performance. Once installed, those connected to the newly expanded Wi-Fi network benefit from beamforming technology, which provides a more focused wireless signal directed toward the connected devices, and MUMO technology for simultaneous streaming to and from multiple devices. If Wi-Fi isn't for you, the Linksys RE9000 also comes equipped with four Gigabit Ethernet ports to connect Ethernet-enabled devices directly to the network.

Eliminate Wi-Fi Dead Zones and Boost Range
Extend your AC Wi-Fi connection in hard-to-reach locations of your home such as the backyard, garage, or bedroom, so you can get blazing AC3000 Wi-Fi speeds to smart TVs, Blu-ray disc players, iPads, tablets, laptops, and smartphones. Powerful amplifiers and four high-performance external antennas deliver maximum power and range, allowing everyone in your family to enjoy 4K/HD movie streaming, simultaneous online gaming, social media, and more.
Up to 3X Faster than Dual-Band Range Extenders
The Max-Stream RE9000 Tri-Band Range Extender helps you get the most out of your home Wi-Fi by delivering speeds up to 3X faster than dual-band range extenders. Dedicated backhaul technology maximizes Wi-Fi speeds by assigning a single, dedicated 5 GHz Wi-Fi band to your router. This frees up the remaining two bands to focus exclusively on your streaming media players, game consoles, and other connected devices, so you'll enjoy full-strength Wi-Fi without slowdown or degradation. Additionally, Band Steering automatically directs connected devices to the faster and less congested Wi-Fi band, offering uninterrupted premium coverage throughout your home and beyond.
Works with All Wi-Fi Routers and ISP Gateways
This Wi-Fi range extender is compatible with any Wi-Fi router, including those from Internet service providers. There's no need to adjust your router's settings when installing the extender.
Multi-User MIMO Extends AC Wi-Fi to Multiple Devices
Built-in AC MU-MIMO (Multi-User, Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output) technology ensures your Wi-Fi is delivered faster and with more efficient throughput to every MU-MIMO connected device. This means your whole household can surf the Internet, stream 4K and HD movies, play online games, and more simultaneously.
Room-to-Room Wi-Fi with Seamless Roaming
With Seamless Roaming, your enabled wireless devices will automatically switch to the strongest Wi-Fi signal, so you won't have to manually connect to the router or range extender when you move from one room to another. This means that you can move freely throughout your home while video chatting or streaming videos without experiencing dropped calls or buffering.

Pair a MAX-STREAM router such as the EA9500 with the MAX-STREAM range extender for more efficient home Wi-Fi that delivers stronger, more powerful Wi-Fi signal to all your devices.
Auto Updates Keep Your Device Up to Date
Your RE9000 will automatically receive firmware updates from Linksys as they are released, so your range extender is always secure and up-to-date.
Beamforming for Reliable Connectivity
Linksys range extenders provide a reliable connection that allows you to enjoy uninterrupted gaming and HD streaming. Beamforming technology focuses the Wi-Fi signal directly to your smartphone, tablet, or laptop for a fast Wi-Fi connection.
Easy Setup Options for Optimal Placement
Two simple ways to setup:
  • Simply press the Push Button Connect feature on the MAX-STREAM AC3000 to automatically sync it to your router.
  • Simple setup from a smartphone, tablet, or laptop.
How to extend Wi-Fi range as much as possible: find the optimal location for the range extender using Spot Finder Technology.
  • If placed too far from an existing router, a wireless range extender may not expand Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi signal strength may be spotty. Spot Finder helps ensure your Linksys range extender is in the right spot.
4 Gigabit Ethernet Ports to Connect Wired Devices
Connect game consoles, Blu-ray players, or Smart TVs to the AC3000's four Gigabit Ethernet ports to provide a fast and stable connection.
Expand Your Wi-Fi Network with Access Point Mode
You can configure the RE9000 range extender to act as an AC access point to extend your home Wi-Fi and reduce dead zones. Access Point Mode allows you to add Wi-Fi capabilities to your existing home wired network. Not only will Band Steering automatically direct traffic to the least congested of the RE9000's three Wi-Fi bands, but all three bands will use the same SSID for seamless performance.

Simply connect the AC3000 range extender using a Gigabit Ethernet cable to your router or cable gateway to upgrade your Wi-Fi connectivity.

    Linksys RE9000 reviews

    RE9000 AC3000 Tri-Band Wireless Range Extender is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 46.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Needs to be able to separate 2.4GHz and 5GHz SSID I paired this with an AC4000 LinkSys MaxStream router. It sets up easily but lacks a few major features. The biggest thing is that it doesn't allow you to set different SSIDs for the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands even if your primary router has them on different SSIDs. Devices do not switch well back and forth well especially from 2.4Ghz back to 5GHz. It would be much better to be able to split the SSIDs. The extender also doesn't seem to allow the range extender to be configured via the app (like the router does). The extender also doesn't support guest networks...So on my LinkSys router I have 4 total networks. 2.4Ghz (normal and guest) and then 5 GHz (normal and guest). You can't replicate all 4 networks with the extender.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Wireless Extender!! I’m doing my review on the RE9000!! I really must say it’s a good product. Setup was easy I was up and running in less than five minutes. I love the form and design. It looks like a little router so it doesn’t look weird or out of place. It fixed my internet in places where my internet couldn’t reach or wasn’t consistent. I can only say good things about it. The only issue I ran into i don't know if it's just the unit I heve is that it has a hissing sound going on. Something I hope can be fixed with an update. Overall it's highly recommend!!! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy Set-up, Great Results I live in a log cabin with my three year old router in my loft office. This works OK for most of the house, but the signal drifts and often drops out on my front porch where I spend a lot of the summer months. The Max-Stream doubled the signal throughout my first floor and gives me a solid, high-speed connection on the porch. I was really surprised how well it works. Set-up was easy and only takes a matter of minutes. A nice feature in the online software graphically shows you where to place the unit for the best combination of speed and quality. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking to extend/improve their signal coverage. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent Choice Setting up the extender with my Linksys AC1750 was effortless. When the status bar on the extender turns solid green, the connection is complete. The status bar is also helpful when placing the extender around the house as a solid green bar indicates a strong connection to the router. If the bar is orange, the connection is weak. A big plus with the AC3000 extender is seamless roaming if connected to a Linksys Max-Stream router, The signal throughout my house is excellent. I highly recommend the AC3000 to anyone looking to extend their network with the latest technology. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great upgrade Had to wait until my return from a Christmas visit before trying the RE 9000 mu-mimo. Had upgraded to the AC 4000 mu-mimo about 8 months ago from cable company equipment and loved the improvement. Then I moved and was able to get FIOS and got the same great results. I thought I had maxed out, but the RE 9000 performed even better. The few reliability issues I am having are more to do with wiring into the building and then into the units. Management is working on it. The true test will be next month when I bring it to rural Vermont. Hopefully, with same results. I will be updating my review with those results. Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable but bulky range extender does the job I am complementing this range extender with Linksys EA9300 router. This enables me to exploit the tri-band capabilities. The integration is seamless as I see only my SSID's I set up from router though I know I'm connected through range extender. I do lose more speed than anticipated though not enough to complain. I love how the bandwidth steering works through range extender as well. My only complaint is the bulkiness of the range extender. I also had to set up twice with WPS to keep range extender from dropping signal. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love at First Sight I requested the opportunity to test and write a review for a range extender, the Linksys Next-Gen AC Max-Stream Tri-Band AC3000 Wi-Fi Range Extender. The only cost to me was the time it took to test it in my home and write the review. As soon as I saw this product and read the description, I wanted to try it, since I have some lower signal areas in my home - the two far ends. I liked the idea of seamless roaming and that it was a tri-band like my router. I also liked seeing antennas on a range extender. I have used range extenders before, but only the wall plug type. My set-up: We had brick ranch home then added a large 2 story room addition (additional 1352 sq. ft.). There are now 4 levels. During the remodel, the contractor wired it with Cat 6 and added a wiring panel in the furnace room, so the router ended up in the lowest of the 4 levels in a small room that has concrete block walls on 3 sides. Even though I have a great router, a Linksys EA8300 Max-Stream AC2200 Tri-Band router, it was not located in an ideal spot for range. I also have Centurylink DSL C1900A modem – 20 Mbps. Before I received the extender, I had planned on a wired hookup vs wireless, but then discovered that I wouldn’t have had seamless roaming with that choice. When setting it up wirelessly, I used the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) buttons on the router and extender, which took no time at all. I then unplugged the extender and moved it to a room right above the furnace room. I placed it on the top of a bookshelf near the ceiling. I only had 2 minor issues during setup. I was previously using a Linksys Wi-Fi Range Extender AC1900 / RE7000. I forgot to unplug it before setting up the new range extender, so when the new one displayed, it displayed as a separate Wi-Fi choice with “EXT” added to the end of the main network name. Since my router provides seamless roaming, the new extender should not have displayed as a separate choice. I unplugged the old extender, pressed the reset and went through the WPS setup again for the new one. It displayed properly after that without the EXT identifier. The other issue involved placement of the extender on the bookshelf and the connection quality. Initially, it displayed solid green which was good, then it displayed solid orange which meant the connection to the router was weak. It went back and forth between green and orange. I messed with the antennas and lost the signal. I had to go through the WPS setup again. After that, I placed the extender about 2 feet to the right on the same bookshelf. It turned solid green and I have had no problems since. Results: The old extender (AC1900 / RE7000) helped in one end of the house. The end near where it was placed. The new extender (AC3000) helped in both ends where the signal was weaker. I checked the signal, both bands, without an extender, with the old extender, and with the new extender. I tested it using a Windows laptop (Lenovo Yoga), a Windows cell phone (Lumia 735), a Windows tablet (Stream 7), a Fire tablet and an iPhone (C5). All showed a signal improvement in the areas where it was weakest before. One benefit that I noticed that’s beyond my understanding involves the 5 GHz band. In my previous setup without this new extender, my Windows phone (Lumia 735) and Windows tablet (Stream 7) never gave me the option to select a 5 GHz band. My only choice was 2.4 GHz band. Now I have the 2 choices and the 5 GHz band signal strength is strong in all areas of my home. In summary, what I like: the fast WPS setup. Even though I had to go through it 3 times (my fault), it took very little time overall, the improved range and signal strength, the availability of the 5 GHz band for all my wireless products, the fact that this extender has antennas - I knew my signal had to improve over my previous set-up, the band steering / seamless roaming, so the wireless device uses the best signal for the current location within the house (the router must be capable like mine was), the fact that this extender has 4 gigabit ethernet ports available, which is going to be a definite plus for many users, and that there are only the 2 Wi-Fi choices and no extended networks (if set up wirelessly) I can recommend this extender. I think you could expect similar results if you have it paired with the appropriate router and had similar issues. For me, it is just what the doctor ordered. Rated 2 out of 5 by from Dissapointed I purchased this a month ago from Frys. It was highly recommended by the salesperson. I does extend the range, however it is very limited. If you just walk in front of the extender, the green light turns orange and you lose the signal. We have a single story house, and I purchased this because my streaming device was in between the router and a brick chimney. I have this extender less than 20' away from the router with one wall between. It has to be positioned on the floor in the middle of the hallway to keep the green signal light. It works, but barely.
