PocketWizard Plus IIIe Overview

Get your flashes off camera with the reliable triggering of black PocketWizard Plus IIIe Transceivers, available here from B&H as a Set of Two. Having two transceivers provides you with the core equipment needing for wireless flash triggering from your camera from up to 1640' away.

PocketWizard Plus IIIe Transceiver (Black)

The PocketWizard Plus IIIe has a total of 112 channels: 32 Quad-Zone E Channels and 80 Long Range Quad-Zone LR channels. Besides eliminating interference this also allows you to trigger flashes in 4 separate (A, B, C, D) zones when doing multiple setups. Auto-Sensing automatically selects the transmitter or receiver mode appropriate to the setup. Auto-Sensing also works in tandem with Auto-Relay mode to allow you to trigger a remote camera along with remote flashes. Two-Stage Triggering technology wakes and focuses your camera when partially depressing the test button, then fires it by fully depressing the button. The original Plus III was known for its long 1600' triggering range but the Plus IIIe's extended wireless rage allows shooting from distances up to 5 miles!

Good news for photographers, the Plus IIIe and Plus IVe are compatible with each other out of the box, but "non-e" Plus IVs and Plus IIIs can be upgraded by PocketWizard for a small charge. If you purchased "non-e" versions on or after 9/1/2019, the upgrade is free.

Long Range Capability
When used in ideal conditions, this transceiver is capable of producing and receiving a signal 5 miles away in Long Range mode while the older Plus III had a range of just 1600'
112 Channels
With 112 channels, the PocketWizard Plus IIIe Transceiver enables you to trigger individual or groups of lights simultaneously or individually. This is critical for working in crowded venues or with multiple lighting set-ups.
Quad-Zone Triggering
You can program up to 4 working zones for remote control of flashes. This allows you the ability to wirelessly activate and deactivate your flashes, enabling you to remain in camera position without having to manually adjust lighting setups. This is ideal for using multiple lighting setups and managing remote cameras as needed.
Auto-Sensing Transceiver
With its patented Auto-Sensing Transceiver technology, the Plus IIIe Transceiver may be set to transmit (Tx) or receive (Rx) independently if needed.
Auto-Relay Mode
Using 3 PocketWizard radios utilizing the Auto-Sensing technology, the transceiver mounted to the camera can instantly receive a signal from an auxiliary transceiver, and then instantly convey the transmission to a remote flash.
High Speed Capability
When in High Speed Receive mode, this transceiver is capable of triggering cameras or flashes up to 14.5 fps.
Two-Stage Remote Camera Triggering
The Plus IIIe Transceiver is the perfect solution for remote camera triggering. The unique two-stage TEST button on the Plus IIIe works just like the shutter release button on your camera. Press it halfway and your remote camera wakes up to meter and focus. Press TEST all the way to take your photo. When released, your remote camera will return to sleep mode normally: a real battery saver.
Simple User Interface and Design
Clearly displayed on a 1" / 2.5cm backlit LCD, all of the channels, zones, and modes can be configured using a soft-touch keypad. The design of the transceiver also incorporates a side-view LCD for easier viewing.
FCC Compliant
This item is FCC compliant and can only be used with corresponding FCC compliant models. Using

PocketWizard Plus IIIe Reviews

My PocketWizards

I've been using these transceivers for over 15 years now, never an issue that's not man-made. I have twelve of them now and they come in handy on my youth sports picture days when I have multiple camera setups.

I was pleased they held up in the super humid conditions. Sometimes it took a bit of trouble shooting but they worked well.

It is good but overkill for me

First it works great no complaints about that. I misread the capabilities of the product, it seems you need 2 to get full functionality. I have the Plus II, Plus x units. In order to use Plus IIIe I have to download the software that will allow me to use all these units. So really did not need to buy this. If I'm wrong in my conclusion please let me know.

Not a plug and play for older equipment

I've always loved my Pocket Wizard as a pair with the MC2 and my Einstein light heads. I had a little trouble setting this one up because of some updates needed to operate. After spending some money and downloading the newer installs, it still didn't talk to my 5d mark iii. I ended up downgrading it to previous firmware, which was a bummer, but it still works great.

Easy to Use

Worked with my ancient Novatron

I just splurged and bought a Sony a7R IV. I'm retired but back in the 80''s I had a wedding photography business and I still have a big old Novatron power pack that I never got rid of. I decided to see if it still works. Unbelievably PocketWizard has a cable that interfaces from their transceivers to the ancient household socket on my Novatron (MH1) , so I bought this kit with the two transceivers and convenient storage bag. I can't believe how cool the pocket wizards are. Their user interface is totally intuitive, and they popped my strobes every time (I was actually amazed that the power pack still worked). I bought a Vello hot shoe adapter to mount the transmitter to the Sony Multi-Interface Shoe. Put my camera in Manual Exposure and Manual ISO mode, set the speed below synch, set the ISO like film, took a reading with my old incident light meter, set the aperture - and perfection. You will have to download the user manual PDF, but I'd rather have it electronically anyway.

Wondering what cables I would need to go with two of these to remotely tirgger the shutter of a Nikon D850 (if that's possible)?
Asked by: Stephen
You can use the N10-ACC or N10-ACC-1. The first is a 3' cable, better if you might position the camera in a tricky place and need to put the radio in a different position, the other is a 1' cable. The Plus IIIe will pre trigger the camera when you half press the test button but if you want to keep it constantly half pressed, you can add the PTMM adapter. You can also add more Plus IIIe radios to remote flashes if you want to remotely trigger the camera AND remote flashes at the same time with the special Relay mode. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=n10-ACC&N=0&InitialSearch=yes&sts=ma

What is the setup for use of a pocket wizard with 4x5 cameras/lenses with pc sync connection? Thinking of using it with Godox strobe package. Good idea? Thanks.
Asked by: Jim
With the Plus IIIe radios, you can actually connect the PocketWizard to the PC port on the body or the lens and it should trigger a remote PocketWizard with no issue.

Does this trigger work with the Hasselblad X1DII?
Asked by: James
Yes, it does, either for flash or remote camera triggering. To trigger a flash, you can use either the PC port or the hot shoe. If you wish to trigger the Hasselblad remotely, you should be able to use the CM-E3-ACC cable: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/633054-REG/PocketWizard_802_456_CM_CE3_ACC_Pre_Trigger_Cable_for.html

Will the pocket wizard plus 3e work with the discontinued plus 3?
Asked by: Steven
Yes, though not quite out of the box. You will need to do one of two things to make them work together. You can either upgrade your existing (Legacy) Plus IIIs to take advantage of the new firmware protocol or you can downgrade the Plus IIIe to the Legacy firmware.
