Telefunken AK-47MKII overview

  • 1Description

The Telefunken AK-47 MkII Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone with Flight Case is an R-F-T Series large-diaphragm, multi-pattern tube condenser mic with a hardshell flight case designed to deliver versatility and full-range frequency reproduction of vocals and instruments for musicians, recordists, and audio engineers in home, project, and commercial recording studios. It features nine polar patterns—omnidirectional, cardioid, figure-8, and six intermediate options. An NOS Telefunken EF732 tube and BV8-inspired custom output transformer contribute to the AK-47 MkII’s rich detail and warm tone. Its 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response and maximum SPL of 125 dB enable it to handle anything from soft vocals to pounding drums.

The AK-47 MkII, its external power supply, proprietary 7-pin cable, and shockmount fit securely in the high-density foam interior of the rugged flight case, which is lockable, airtight, and waterproof up to a 3’ depth. An automatic pressure equalization valve in the case ensures proper pressure at a variety of altitudes.

  • AK-47 MKII Tube Microphone

The AK-47 MKII Tube Microphone from Telefunken is a part of their acclaimed R-F-T series. The microphone features a large diaphragm condenser element and a custom output transformer that borrows from the historic BV8 transformer found in the vintage U-47 and U-48 microphones. The AK-47 MKII's tube stage features an NOS Telefunken EF-732 vacuum tube, delivering pristine audio fidelity, low noise and vintage analog warmth. The AK-47 MKII features omnidirectional, cardioid, and figure 8 polar patterns with 6 intermediate stages for each pattern.

Utilizes American-designed electronics in conjunction with new old-stock tubes and standardized parts
Features a new proprietary circuit designed around a NOS Telefunken EF-732 tube and a custom output transformer that is an exact replica of the historic BV8 transformer, found in the historic U-47 and U-48 microphones
The Telefunken EF-732 tube is very similar to the AC-701 tube in that it provides a "velvety" character to the overall tone of the microphone
Remarkably hi-fidelity microphone with a "present" but not "harsh" character
