Can the Ortofon 2m 78 stylus be used with the ...

Can the Ortofon 2m 78 stylus be used with the installed cartridge? Is switching the stylus instead of the cartridge problematic long term (wear) to enable playing of 78s? Will switching the stylus avoid needing to realign the cartridge?
Asked by: Don
Yes. The ReLoop comes with the 2M Red. Per Ortofon website: 2M Series styli interchangeability: The 2M Series' engines, coils and magnets configurations are not identical: Red and Blue are identical, so are the Bronze and Black and so are the true mono variants 2M Mono and 2M 78. Likewise, 2M series styli are interchangeable within the below combinations: - 2M Red, 2M Blue and 2M Silver - 2M Bronze and 2M Black - 2M Mono and 2M 78

What would be a good cartridge for playing 78s on ...

What would be a good cartridge for playing 78s on this turntable? I want something that is quick and easy, so that I can quickly change from playing 33s and 78s.
Asked by: Mike
78 RPM cartridges For correct playback fidelity of your 78 RPM records you need to use a cartridge with stylus designed for 78 RPM records. A very common misconception is that you can use a LP stylus for playing 78 records. This is one quick and sure way to damage the 78 record groove. Playing it once is enough. Moreover, the LP stylus is much narrower than the 78 record groove hence the tip will slip to the bottom of the groove where debris has collected for many decades. This results in extraordinarily high surface noise. The LP stylus also sways on either side of the groove wall or misses the groove wall where the sound was recorded. All in all, it's not good for the 78 RPM record, for your LP stylus, and for listening.
