Super-Telephoto Versatility
Targeting sports, wildlife, and action shooters, this FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens from Sony will satisfy many photographers and videographers who are looking for a bit of extra reach with their full-frame E-mount camera. As a member of the G Master line, it is designed with outstanding resolution and sharpness in mind, along with a relatively compact size, responsive autofocus, and Optical SteadyShot image stabilization for outstanding performance at all focal lengths.
G Master Optics
Characteristic of the G Master line, this telephoto zoom offers excellent optical performance with both high sharpness and smooth bokeh.

  • Two extra-low dispersion elements and one Super ED element control chromatic aberrations and reduce color fringing for increased clarity and color fidelity.
  • Nano AR Coating reduces surface reflections, flare, and ghosting for improved contrast and color rendering in strong lighting conditions.
  • Far-reaching telephoto zoom sports a f/4.5-5.6 maximum aperture range that is an ideal compromise resulting in a lightweight, compact design and bright enough performance for working in available lighting conditions.
  • Rounded nine-blade diaphragm contributes to a pleasing bokeh quality when employing selective focus techniques.
Autofocus and Image Stabilization
  • Direct Drive Super Sonic wave Motor AF (DDSSM) and internal focus mechanism provides quick, quiet, and precise autofocus performance along with more natural, intuitive manual focus control.
  • Floating elements system benefits image quality when working at the 3.2' minimum focusing distance with 0.35x magnification.
  • Optical SteadyShot image stabilization minimizes the appearance of camera shake for sharper imagery when shooting handheld.
Durable Design and Intuitive Handling
  • Zoom torque adjustment ring will help provide users with added control over the zoom function of the lens.
  • Focus range limiter and focus hold controls offer more intuitive handling and faster performance when photographing moving subjects.
  • Removable rotating tripod mount permits quick switching from horizontal to vertical shooting orientations.
  • Dust and weather-sealed construction benefits using the lens in inclement shooting conditions.
  • The front lens element features a fluorine coating to protect against smudges and dust from adhering to the glass surface.
  • Compatible with FE 1.4x and 2x teleconverters for reaching focal lengths up to 800mm.
Chiaro 77mm 95-UVAT UV Filter

The 77mm 95-UVAT UV Filter is one of Chiaro’s highly-rated protective UV filters with 95% light transmission. It’s useful for photographers of all levels who demand high-quality glass and other essential features for great image fidelity and construction.

To achieve 95% light transmission, Chiaro uses highly-polished optical glass, multi-coating, and additional advanced elements that improve the filter’s light transmission. A hard-anodized aluminum filter ring is designed to screw on and off effortlessly, and it’s thin to prevent vignetting when used with wide-angle lenses.

Image quality is what matters most at Chiaro. The company has tested and combined many features and essentials to achieve superior image quality and the highest light transmission. To help take the confusion out of selecting a filter, Chiaro prominently displays the light transmission levels so you can choose the perfect filter for your lens and photo session.

95% Light Transmission
Protect your lens while maintaining optical quality. By using highly-polished optical glass, Chiaro offers a 95% transmission rate. And the company verifies the ratings with ISO certified lab testing.
Polished Optical Glass
Highly-polished glass is essential to achieve a high level of light transmission. The optical glass in this Chiaro filter is polished for flatness that ensures great optical clarity.
Multi-coating enhances light transmission to the demanding level set for all Chiaro filters. It reduces unwanted internal reflections and ghosting that can compromise your images.
UV Protection
The filter blocks UV light and reduces the bluish cast of daylight that can affect color accuracy, especially at higher altitudes.
Hard Anodized Aluminum Construction
The process of hard anodizing toughens and strengthens the aluminum for a lightweight yet durable filter ring.
Slim Design
Measuring only 3.2mm, this filter is slim enough to use on wide-angle lenses without experiencing vignetting.
Top Knurling
Top knurling is designed to offer a firm grip on the filter when you're attaching or removing it.
Secure Attachment
It takes two full turns to mount the filter on your lens. This feature will securely hold your Chiaro filter through the most demanding photo shoots.
Front Threads
The front threads on the filter allow you to stack filters by screwing them onto your Chiaro filter.

FE 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens with UV Filter Kit Reviews

Wonderful lens!

I bought this lens because my 200-600 is starting to get very heavy. The close focus distance and the tack sharp images I get with this lens paired with my A7RV are fantastic! I'm probably going to sell the 200-600mm.

This lens is great for action sports, is very sharp, and tracks fast movers well. It's also light enough to handhold, but can also be set on a monopod if you prefer. Also does macro surprisingly well, considering that's not its main purpose. Well worth the investment and the GMaster moniker.

Ive only got to use this lens once so far and i like the detail it provides. At my age it was a very expensive expenditure for this late in life but Ive wanted this lens for several years now . I hope to visit our national parks and use this investment.

Flexible and Far Reaching

When I first purchased a tele lens, I went with the tried and true 70-200. It was fine, but I kept finding myself wishing I had more reach. I opted to sell that in favor of this 100-400. Although I wish it had a wider aperture, I do love this lens. I've had no issues with sharpness throughout the zoom range. The image stabilization is effective. The zoom and focus rings move easily, but not too easily. I appreciate I can modify the friction of the zoom ring on the fly. When tightened I've had no issues with creeping. Autofocus is fine, but I'm not doing any fast action shooting, so I can't speak to the speed. For my use it is fine, but I typically use manual focus.

After I mounted the Sony FE 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 GM OSS Lens on my a7R3 and accidentally I tilted the lens down a little bit, the lens barrel automatically extended to reach the 200mm mark. In other words, the zoom mechanism does not lock as the lens tilts downward. Is this the design of the lens or I have a defective lens? Your help is truly appreciated.
Asked by: George
Dear Rob, My Nikon Nikkor 200-500mm does not extend the barrel by itself due to the weight of the internal lens elements assembly when the lens is pointed down even though its barrel is extended as the zoom goes from 200mm to 500mm. That is why I asked this question. I am glad that my copy is the way Sony designs this zoom lens because the lens is very sharp. Thank you.

Can I use this lens with an Arca type L-bracket?
Asked by: Karen
I'm not sure whether the question can be answered as asked. An L-Bracket is for a camera, not for a lens. I suppose a partial answer might be "yes, if the L-Bracket is strong enough to support the weight of the FE 100-400." I know from experience, that a light-weight tripod head will not work - too much weight. Hope this helps.
